Anyone else NOT excited for Sword/Shield?

I’ve been wondering if anyone else is feeling this way.

I have always been a person who buys each release version and going as far as collecting a living pokedex across my games for PokeBank. With Sword and Shield it’s different. Idk if I’m just burned out, tired of buying new games or what. As I get closer to 30 I realize I prioritize my gaming differently, that comes natural, but I was always excited for Pokemon. The Dynamax feature may be a big part of it. As a person who has played alot of Pokemon GO the last year it was kind of upsetting to see the main rpg games I loved over the years really push toward GO’s mechanics.

Anyone else in the same boat?

What specifically makes you not want to get it?

I can’t get used to this 3d style it doesn’t do it for me probably cause Blue & Red was what pinned it for me, if they used a similar style as Octopath Traveler, ooh wee I’d be excited for that.

The only thing i’m not fan of is pokemon becoming giant. I just hope the anime has a different art style.

I was extremely excited then lost a lot of that excitement with the e3 announcement of no global pokédex. :unamused:

The idea of all these pokemon not even being programmed into the game blows my mind. Its one thing to not make every mon catchable in-game, but not being able to even transfer them is unprecedented.

I always swap in low level mons that I like so this really sucks.

I’m personally extremely excited for the game, and it makes me sad to see the hate bandwagon solely because they are getting rid of the National Dex. They said there are already 800 pokemon in the regional dex, which is far more than sun and moon and any other pokemon game. It’s getting to the point where having a National dex is silly with the insane amount of pokemon that have been created since Gen 1, and I personally prefer them to flesh out a select amount of pokemon instead of sacrificing quality for the sake of programming every pokemon into the game

Also, it looks amazing!! This kind of open world 3D pokemon game is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid, and I’m so excited that it’s finally happening

As a programmer, this was definitely my thought when I heard the news surrounding the National dex. As Pokemon games get bigger, this becomes a bigger issue. I’m sure they’re currently thinking of a way to resolve this problem with Nintendo themselves.

On the contrary, as someone who last played the Pokemon games back in 2009 (with Platinum or Soul Silver), this game interests me much more than any of the previous entries. The stadium and grandeur theme in Sword and Shield as well as the 360 degree camera interests me. The best piece however has to be that it’s on the Switch, I absolutely loathe the 3DS’ graphics, hurts my eyes every time I play a game on there.

Seconding this, I’m also a programmer and my initial reaction when I heard about the game was to look at my card binders and think, “Holy crap”. I’m stupid excited for the game and totally understand why they limited the dex.

Now, the jumbo oversized Pokemon feature in battle? Not super thrilled but I’m sure I’ll get over it.

Will there be a dex of the New Pokemon then?

I don’t want this game if I need others help to complete. The co-battles are not my thing in pokemon-go. I play Lets Go Eevee by myself.

Uh, yeah no they’ve had the same Models since Gen 6. Seriously.

This is also the highest grossing media franchise and it smells of pure laziness that they couldn’t get this done. The fucking Wii games have better animations than those shown at e3.

@nportell I agree with you. I’m still interested to play the game however my hype and enthusiasm has died a bit too. Dynamax looks silly and there being no support for a full Pokedex is a poor design choice.

“Gotta Catch 'Em All” … Isn’t that why we are all here?
Looks like we can’t … catch em all … Not anymore (Demonic voice)

I keep a living National Dex but nevertheless start from the beginning with every generation anyway by using only what I can get in game. So the lack of a National Dex doesn’t bother me all that much. My main complaint over the years has been an already easy series of games getting even easier, but you can always remedy that with self-imposed challenges, so it’s not a huge deal.

I’m excited enough just by having free camera movement, though I’m not too fond of Dynamax at the moment and have some trepidation about how the Max Raid Battles will be implemented. Ultimately, I can’t see myself not being excited about a mainline Pokemon game–they are what brought me into and keep me in the series.

The fact that the new aspects are leaning toward Pokemon GO. I love GO but have always enjoyed the main games much more. Also have played way more GO in the last year than usual so I was hoping for a totally different aspect of gameplay to have a break from the GO feel. Now it seems like they are trying to get the GO players to the main games more than ever. Makes sense just sucks for the longtime rpg players I feel.

Yeah it takes away from the ltotal game area too. I like that they are going with the switch but it is going to take a while before we see the scale of the older games like we are used to.

 i dont care for the big pokemon think but i dont not play the games for pure battling i am only there to experience the world get to the end beating the elite 4 with a few different teams and then trying to catch as many pokemon as i can "one of each and see how close i can get to the end of the dex without cheating.

my only two "complaints well ones a complaint and ones a i am not fussed the giant pokemon thing its alright but i am not fussed if its in there or not my only complaint is not all pokemon being there i hope that theres something later on maybe a £10 dlc for the rest of the pokemon if its not ready i would be happy with that on the other hand if all of the pokemon are not going to be there from this game forward that really annoys me as the whole point is got to catch them all but i am sure there is plently to do in each of the the last game i played was lets go pikachu and then before that pearl so really excited to get back into them they just have to put all of the pokemon in there from previous games that is a must.

Name a core series Pokémon game where you could catch all of them in it.

No trading.
No gifts.

From the very beginning we have been preconditioned to not being able to get them all ourselves.

I don’t see this as a massive issue, unless the Galar Dex is quite small.

I want to see at least 450 Pokémon in this game. Ideally we’d get 600+.

Its fine that you can’t catch every pokemon in the game, its just that they say there isn’t going to be a National pokedex. The game should have a pokedex that recognizes all Pokemon especially in a core Pokemon game. The fact that you may not be able to move one of your favourites from the older games into the new world is just disappointing.
