Future of (fake) 1st Edition Stamps

Hello and nice Friday everyone!

With the rising amount of fake cards, I have been thinking about the future of 1st ed non-holos. I have several complete 1st non-holo WOTC sets and I was thinking that the 1st ed does not seem to be that difficult to replicate on the unlimited card.

That makes me a bit worried that the 1st ed stamp might stop being relevant at some point, as it will be really tough to tell the difference between the legit and the fake one (as long as it’s not PSA graded but we all know the stories with graded fake cards, so…).

Plus I guess you don’t really want to risk damaging the card by trying to wash the stamp off.

What do you think, may the 1st ed stamp lose it’s value at some point due to the fact that you can just simply stamp the unlimited card? Another example would be the smudged 1st ed stamps in the Team Rocket set where it looks kinda fake but is actually a real legitimate factory stamp (example on Dark Gyarados).

I still love the artwork, can look at the cards all day but talking about the value, I just think that the 1st ed stamp will become less relevant in time and we might end up having more 1st ed cards than unlimited in circulation.

as a shadowless collector I thought about this a lot.

shadowless cards can be bought and then stamped with first edition. I wouldn’t be surprised if psa graded a Shadowless stamped card to be honest.

for that reason, I have concluded shadowless is the ultimate collection for me. they can’t be faked as easily as 1st ed, and will have inherit demand from all the scam stampers as 1st ed rises. their supply will also diminish as they are turned into fakes.

and @rickybobby, if you look in that thread you can see that 2x certs are certainly not free from fakes
