Since this is a card collecting community… How often do you go to LGS? (Yeah it’s coronatimes but some lgs are open) Or how often did you go to LGS before corona?
While many of you are further along in your collections and the shop may not have your super rare cards(1st ed), they have plenty of english modern and semi modern cards for you look at. Do you occasionally stop by, look at stock/EX’s maybe, Boosters, cards?
Weekly, to play PTCG or YGO. My LGS doesnt sell singles so all my collection have been purchased online. Ill support them with the occasionally booster pack or sleeve purchase.
They don’t usually stock any vintage which I exclusively collect, so I stopped going. Got laughed out of the store last time I asked if they had any vintage booster packs lol.
@way2slowbro , Yeah I went to the sword shield pre-release event (did not win) and I would stop by occasionally to pick up some singles from an LGS. Are lgs /poke and yugioh events up and running in your area? I saw a magic event picture on reddit, where there’s small 8 people events with plastic sheet and everyone’s wearing mask on. It’s serious.
Reason why I ask too, is for the people that go to LGS to buy all the undervalued items. Do you think the LGS secretly hates you? I have not been blackballed yet, but I think they’re onto me. @acebren , haha they know you’re looking for some good storage deals. Maybe change it up a bit and buy some moderns then the ‘i only collect 20 year old cards raw’ mentality.
I would’ve been very happy to pay market or even slightly over if they had any in stock - rocket/jungle/fossil were around the $25 mark at the time. The opportunity to relive childhood memories and act like it was 1999 again
No, $25 per booster pack for unlimited jungle/fossil/rocket, I have visited them quite a few times over the past decade, however haven’t been in around 2 years.
The only vintage they had was a binder with a couple beat up old holos and rares.
Never, since there aren’t any. If I do a quick google search I can find about ten physical TCG shops in my entire country, none exactly close-by… (There might be some other smaller ones, though.)
I’m sure my local toy store might still sell some Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh/MTG boosters every now and then, which is where I used to buy Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh boosters as a kid, but I haven’t been there in over a decade tbh.
LGS’s are not essential shops here so are not open here yet. Even if they were I doubt there would be too much demand for Pokemon tournaments as Worlds has been cancelled. I know some of the YGO community are having online locals.
My LGS only sells items for retail so good deals are rare.
I wish I could say that I go to the one that is ten minutes from me but they have horrible customer service and are not consistent with their card prices. On top of that they don’t sell vintage other than commons/uncommons.
I love visiting card shops when I’m visiting new parts of the country. There are much better ones than where I live. With that being said, the same reason that I shop at Walmart is the same reason that I buy 99.99% of my cards online.
The closest LGS to me is about an hour away. I would go there for prereleases for evolutions to crimson invasion. Thats about where I fell out with modern and after that only picked up the occasional booster, so I had no need to go there any more.
I liked trading with people but other than that there wasnt anything that drew me to it
Most of the LGS around me carry magic and other games, a couple carry no Pokemon. Most are oriented towards table for gaming. There is one that’s has all types of cards. However it’s 30 mins away.
I go at least 2 to 3 times a week and maybe more to practice/test if there are any upcoming cups/regionals. If anybody lives in southeastern PA I’d highly recommend taking a trip to Tales of Adventure in Coopersburg for modern singles. They have by far the best selection of cards I’ve ever seen.
My LGS’s in the UK don’t stock singles and are mostly running tournaments, so I go once or twice a year for MTG pre-releases.
I do visit Japan 3-4 times per year though and that’s where I get the real LGS for collectors experience. Back in January visited a card shop in Shibuya (Mint I think was the name), which is both a card store and a pub. Nothing is more satisfying than scouring through vintage Pokemon/MTG cards while enjoying a few beers. Would definitely visit weekly if there was something like that in my area.
