MAP Industries Grading - Charizard

ibb.co/kmtsdTY

So I got this nice Charizard and It looks really nice. Does anyone have any information on this Map Industries grading? I tried to google, but I only got little bit of information - it was founded by a dude who worked at PSA, but he died a while back and company went down. Is there any other info?

Also, I would like to regrade this card by PSA or BGS, can I send it with the case or do I’ll have to take it out myself.

Thnx/

Well it’s a rare case so it may look cooler there

Cut, color, condition? Sounds like a hair salon menu.

@microgypsy, I have purchased 4 or 5 MAP graded cards in the last decade, and each time I used a drill press to cut/remove the rivets and free the card so that I could have it graded by PSA. Every time the card was given an identical grade by PSA, so the MAP standards were pretty accurate in my experience. The MAP cases are dreadful though, doing little more than a screw-down case would. I would highly suggest having valuable cards regraded and actually sealed by PSA or Beckett to ensure protection.

Ive done some research in the past on MAP and found the same quote by @garyis2000. Maybe he can add some more information about the company.

Sick case, would be cool to see other companies have more than 1 style of case to choose from.

Haha… post of the year:joy::joy::joy:

That garyis2000 is pretty smart lol.

Yes, it’s a solid grade. George was meticulous and consistent. I would totally trust his grade. Now does that mean it’s a guaranteed 10 elsewhere? Not 100% but I’d certainly lean that way.

By the way, those slabs are a part of Pokémon history. George (and his wife) were simply trying to improve the hobby’s. I did all I could to support him and his efforts. I must have graded 2-300 cards through him just to get the word out and put a few bucks back in his families pockets. I graded magic, baseball, football, and of course Pokémon. He had a good thing going until his heart attack.
To one of the good guys…RIP,

Oh…thanks.

Thanks guys. Do you think I should hold on to this case and not attempt to re-grade, it’s cool that it has an historic value. This guy did nice job, sad that he passed away.

You can always grade with PSA down the line. You can never go back to a MAP case. If you like the card as it is and plan to keep it I’d leave it.

Echoing the above too though. I’ve ended up with these cards in the past from various collection buys. I dont personally like the cases at all and was reselling so I cracked and submitted with PSA. I believe all maintained or went up with PSA from their MAP grades though IIRC I had zero MAP 10s.

I would keep it as is, a nice part of the grading aspect of the hobby!

I was sorting stadiums and found these. Most would be PSA 10s but MAP wouldn’t give them 10s.

Did you end up regrade it? Or do you still have it?
