Middle Evolution Favorites?

I’m wondering what Pokémon you prefer (in an evolution family of 3) the middle evolution? These Pokémon are often cast to the side and treated as the awkward teenager. Let’s give them some love! (Example: Wartortle, Kadabra, Dragonair, etc.)

One of my favorite Pokémon is Togetic.

I far prefer it over Togepi and Togekiss. Togepi is definitely cute however Togetic still retains the cuteness factor and adds more (tiny wings, tiny limbs, wholesome smile). Something went wrong in the evolution to Togekiss. While Togekiss is a competitive beast, its design is just… wrong. Why is its head now back to being a part of its body? It is a lot bigger than Togetic so it does lose a bit of cuteness over now looking a lot bigger. Subconsciously I know there is more wrong with this Pokemon, I just can’t put my finger on what it is.

What are some Pokémon that you prefer the middle evolution?

Dragonair > Dragonite

While Dragonite is certainly a more “lovable” Pokémon, Dragonair is a far more natural evolution and objectively makes more sense. The subtle wings and the simple blue jewel capture more majesty than Dragonite does.

Poliwhirl > Poliwrath

This guy is just so cute and its evolved form (I mean Poliwrath, not Toed, who is actually very cool) does little for the design. Just keep the homie as Poliwhirl and call it a day.

Floette > Florges

Florges is just so busy and overdone. Also, in the TCG, Florges has shown to be VERY irritating to deal with and to delete her from existence would have been pretty cool.

Also agreed with @boogus on Togetic.

Damn, hard question here.

Quilava comes to mind, but I too also love togetic a ton, so probably those two are my top choices.

Rhydon, Torracat and, as several have already said, Togetic.

The fact that Rhydon is a middle evolution now is just so wrong, especially considering it turns into the disaster that is Rhyperior (I guess we can throw Magmar into the mix, too). I also love Torracat’s design and think Incineroar just looks awful.

And on a more controversial note, I love Charmeleon’s color scheme. Not saying it has a better design than Charizard, but it has an argument.

Definitely my boy Kadabra. Never got to trade him in FR/LG for the Alakazam evolution when I was younger. I just had a really high level Kadabra on my team and now I have a lot more nostalgic attachment for the middle evolution.

I guess Pikachu is technically a middle evolution. Same with Chansey, Magmar, Electabuzz, and Clefairy. Some of my favorite ones are Dragonair, Flaaffy, and Grovyle.

I’ve said it before but I kinda hate how later added evolutions to earlier pokemon then just outshine the older form, specifically many of the ones from gen 4 like magmortar, togekiss etc.

Togetic was one of my favorite pokemon and togekiss looks really stupid imo. Also I kinda just despise it because I want more cool togetic cards :sob:

But I do agree with some of the ones already named. Especially Haunter. I always liked Haunter way more than Gengar, although the entire evolution line is great, and Haunter is among my favorite Pokémon.
For Dragonair and Dragonite, I like both equally as much. And for Kadabra and Alakazam, I definitely prefer Alakazam personally. I also like Togetic more than Togekiss, although I like Togepi even more tbh.

I also agree with Pidgeotto; Clefairy; Rhydon; Chansey; Quilava; Grovyle; Floette; and Torracat of the ones that were already named.
And to add some others for which I like the middle evolution more than their evolved or pre-evolved forms personally: Marill; Vigoroth; Loudred; Roselia; Anorith; Palpitoad; Tirtouga; Klang; Eelektrik; Steenee; Raboot; Carkol; Hattrem.

I’ve always thought graveler was pretty cool. A jagged mass of gravel that walks around, how cool! His name is pretty tough as well in my opinion.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that my favorite mid-evolutions is from the Gyarados line:

Magidos!

But in all seriousness, I’ve always loved these 3 more than the rest of their line (with exception to Kadabra since Alakazam is still close to my heart):

I should mention that I also like Charmeleon more than other mid-evolutions because of the show and because of Dark Charmeleon’s art being so iconic.

And me too! Haunter probably stands as my favorite of the three I mentioned. I loved it so much as a kid that I was disappointed to find out that Gengar’s stats were higher (as it would obviously be, I was just dumb-stubborn), but I still refused to evolve mine in the game. XD

There are few mid-evolution Pokemon that I find just as good, if not better than their next evolution, such as , , , , and .
