Is it safe to assume that a large majority of PSA graded packs, particularly WOTC packs, have been weighed and do not contain a holo card?
Do you think this will affect the long-term value of these items? After all, the value of an unopened pack is the possibility that it could contain anything.
yes. I think graded packs are dead weight unless they are 1st ed base set (everycard besides the energy is worth some money) or you are looking to have them for display
I have thought about this before but it doesn’t bother me as much because it is a good way of preserving them. I guess you have to decide how much you are going to be willing to pay for one.
I’m aiming to complete some old sets in PSA 9 and I thought having the packs would be a nice touch. I don’t know if I would sell them in within the next 30 years, so I’m talking really long term. I wouldn’t plan on opening them myself either.
I just wanted to hear what other people think about them.
Yes most graded packs have been weighed since the assumption is that they will never be opened by a buyer. It’s safe to assume for that matter that most packs on ebay in general have been weighed unless you buy from a trusted source.
As it stands now there is no difference in value between graded weighed and unweighed packs mainly because for all intents and purposes unweighed ones don’t exist. But if they did, it’d be a case by case scenario depending on the sellers track record and credibility.
I know of a few people offhand who’ve cracked boxes, weighed, and graded all the lighter ones only to sell them for profit. These make up the bulk of the current market availability now for the forseeable future, unfortunately. Of course doing so is dishonest and outright theft in my opinion, but that’s a thread for another day.
I personally wouldnt really want to grade or buy the psa packs as I dont liek the look of them. If PSA decide to update the slab for Pokemon packs…I would definitely want to send some in and purchase. The look of them currently , in a non Pokemon tailored slab…just isnt appealing.
