Well, after lurking for so long but also thinking about threads I’d like to make if I ever joined, here goes the first one! Hope it’s ok, I did read the rules and look for similar threads.
We all love the art on our cards, but sometimes, much like Poliwag’s nose/mouth (???) some things go unnoticed by us for literally decades (at this point).
To kick off, the artwork by Ryuta Fuse for the Machop line in 151 -
Machop is on top of those pillars "training from Dusk til Dawn", evolving as they go!
I don’t know how I didn’t piece this together when I first saw the cards, but there’s literally a dusk, night, and dawn. D’oh.
In this thread, post pictures of card art that has a feature, theme or easter egg you didn’t realise at first! Maybe even dig through your binder and see if you can find something new?
I remember reading these when they were created, I love the Peaceful Park subset! E4 is such a wealth of knowledge and passion, genuinely the only place on the web I have time for.
I love your thread! Some of the card art we’re treated to with new sets is incredible. Good eatin’ for collectors, even when you don’t necessarily know the Pokémon.
There’s so much on this card I’ve genuinely not stopped to take in: PlusPower, Defender, Full Heal, Revive, Computer Search, the Farfetch’d leek, Bellsprout!
The Rocket dohickeys are charming and I love the 3rd one flapping around in the back!
If you look at the Japanese sets for BREAKthrough: Blue Shock and Red Flash, Flabébé is in Blue Shock alongside two M Mewtwo X cards, and Marowak is in Red Flash alongside two M Mega Y cards.
The set names are also related to both Mega Mewtwo, since M Mega X has blue eyes and becomes stronger than regular Mewtwo and M Mega Y has red eyes and becomes faster than regular Mewtwo (as seen in the Genesect anime movie).
