So I have a question for you guys… What are your thoughts as far as some of the Hidden Fates stuff goes? Like the collector boxes/ collection pieces? Do you think they’re going to be worth something in 5-10 years sealed factory new?
My personal thoughts are it is a good set, I can see people continuing to want to open booster packs. It is without a doubt the best ENGLISH set in a number of years. Putting some sealed product away may not be a bad idea, but there are probably a handful of other items that will outpace it. Keep in mind it is not the limited release that it was made out to be in the beginning.
Maybe!
…
Also: maybe not!
It’s probably the #1 or #2 set from Sun and Moon I would bet on. But that’s just a meaningless guess. No one really knows! Even if it goes up, will you make $100 in 5 years? Is it even worth it? Maybe. Maybe not.
You appear to already have purchased it so the money is spent. If you have the space to hold it then you have nothing to lose so I would just recommend keeping it sealed. It goes up? Great. It stays the same price in 5 years? Well then you can crack it open yourself. Either way the return you will probably see speculating on 1 or 2 boxes isn’t going to change your life. Follow your heart and dont lose sleep over it
will it be worth something? of course it will be worth something. Will it be worth holding onto and trying to sell for a profit in 3-5 years down the road…Im gonna say no not at all. Old product is a gamble and barely an investment. Modern product is a full on gamble. Take the money and buy lotto tickets or go to the casino. You’ll have more fun and just as likely to come out with a profit lol.
Thanks for the post replies guys. I truly appreciate it. I had the same thoughts as you guys. I wasn’t intending at all to hold onto it to make BANK off these or anything. I was just curious as to what the thoughts are mainly as to this set and the value of it as it gets aged. But my assumption as it seems to be as all yours is; is that there are SO many PSA 10 Charizards out there already; and if someone really wants this set; more than likely they are not going to pay much more than I did for it; even 10 years down the road. So I’m just going to open it and enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
It is disappointing to me that I’ve only pulled ONE really nice card from this set; and I have SO many duplicates of the Full art Shinies. But nonetheless; still no Charizard. I think my buying days for this set are over; and if I do so ever want to get a Charizard (Shiny GX) from this set; I’ll just buy one up that’s already graded and such and save myself the headache of trying to open a box of this value; and lose out just to get another group of duplicates and nothing essentially.
But I do appreciate the replies. I had my suspicions with this set; but I just don’t see a great value in this set like the original cards hold as per keeping it factory sealed. I’m sure they’re going to be a TON of them out there and available to the public in yrs to come even; and they aren’t going to sell but MAYBE for a couple double digits more.
As quoted; not worth losing any sleep over; I am just going to open it as it was bought and intended for. And who knows! Maybe this one will be the key that holds my Black Charizard. Or not; and again; it’s not about what’s inside it that’s what’s worth having it/ buying it. It’s the reason we collect that makes this fun.
@shinyrayquaza, any modern English, the print runs are to fulfill demand. I doubt these will EVER be limited which makes it readily available and will not hold value. You may probably hold them for 10 years and get an extra $5-10 lol. Good luck on the Zard man, I told you don’t look for it and it will come. The harder you look for a card, the more chances you will likely not pull it!
First: I don’t have anything against Hidden Fates, it is good looking modern set, but I wouldn’t haul sealed products off that set. The supply is maybe even higher than speculated. I live in Finland, and also literaly middle in the forest in here. What I know Pokemon TCG is not realy big thing in my area. Still, last time I was visiting on a local shop wich is more like grocery than department store, I was surprised to see that they have full shelves off HF Tins etc… Usually they might have some blister packs and theam decks from 2 off the recent set but nothing more. They never had DM or SL products. That may doesn’t mean anything, but to me it looks like #A: HF is much more produced than the last two english mini sets.
Or #B The the store is counting that this set have much more demant, even on my area.
I believe the collection pokeball boxes, and the rayquaza premium box will increase. I’ve only seen my targets / walmarts restock the ultra ball and great ball one time. While the rayquaza box I have only seen in the stores 1 time, and haven’t seen since. Add in how many of the rayquaza statues break while inside, I think those sealed will be desirable.
This is a good take! And it looks like you’ve already made up your mind. Let us know what you get!

Casinos have free soda usually too! You cant lose when you get a free beverage!
Anyways, I wasnt collecting when xy evolutions came out, but I imagine that set was probably super duper hyped up leading up to, at, and for some time after release. Can anyone confirm that? Was hidden fates and evolutions at all comparable? All this to say that evolutions is coming up on four years and you can still get booster boxes for the same exact price as release. And none of the cards are expensive either. My personal opinion is it will take a long time for hidden fates sealed stuff to really jump in value.
Just buy two of everything when you make purchases of the stuff, open one and set the other back!
In the grand scheme of things, they aren’t that expensive to buy are they so maybe hold on to them for a while, see what happens, if they look like they’re increasing then great, if not, just open them and see what you get.
I do really like the set as a whole, probably my favourite out of the S&M era and the hype train was huge at the start and the lack of any stock around indicated it may be a good one to keep, I’ve kept back a Mew pin box just to see what happens, but with the re-print now happening, it’s difficult to see how it’ll go. I can still easily get hold of tins from my suppliers which indicates that they probably won’t be hard to get from now on.
