Warning: Paypal spam email going around

Hi guys, I just wanted to warn you about something that I came by just now. I’m sure there’s been things like this before and many of you probably have seen these, but I just wanted to warn you just in case. I received a spam email “from Paypal”. Here is what it looked like.

There are a lot of things in it that look suspicious but if someone looks at that quickly they might think it’s real. This is obviously spam but for some reason Outlook’s spam filters didn’t recognize it as such and and that’s why I wanted to make a warning. I’ve already reported it and went soon to check if my Paypal account is actually ok. It is and I didn’t click any links, as I realized it’s spam and someone’s trying to scam me.

If you are using any reasonable browser clicking that link should throw up a huge stop sign in front of your face. The url’s are always really long and convoluted and it would not be a secure site as paypal would. Any time my browser sees anything like that, it doesn’t navigate me to it before it literally throws up a wall and makes me click a big button saying that I know what I am doing.

Good information nonetheless. Not only for Pokemon related things like paypal and ebay but across the board always be leary of anything like this. Phishing attempts are common and they must work from time to time since they keep doing it.

Yeah I’m sure Chrome would stop it if I clicked on that. I guess it’s more an attempt to target those who use older versions of Internet Explorer etc.

People who don’t have much experience from these things sometimes fall into it, my mom is a good (bad) example… She entered her credit card’s details for “a giveaway”, and you know the result. They started to steal 50 € / month from her bank account and she had to take down the card and get a new one. Since that I’ve told her to always ask me if she isn’t sure about something, and in general to ask me always if there is something unfamiliar or something new she wants to try. She is quite new on this internet thing…

Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve seen these sometimes before.

I log into my paypal almost daily so i know the status that my account is in but most times, the senders email is a dead giveaway.
paypal never say dear user, they always address you by your name.

To be on the safe side when if and when i get these paypal emails, i just open a new tab and log to my paypal, just spend a minute to make sure.

The big giveaway is;

“Dear user/member/person”

PayPal ALWAYS uses your name when contacting you.

If you get an email from PayPal that doesn’t have your name, it’s guaranteed to be hoax.

Wish I had kept a screenshot of it. I had a lot better version a few weeks ago. They had my full name and the links were to PayPal. Looked so real I could understand people falling for it. The line they were using is you had to update some information for the new tax year.

Tip- if you get an e-mail from someone like PayPal log onto the platform as they will send you a message there as well.

I get this kind of spam E-mails a lot and always get a minor heart-attack each time… The funny thing though, is that they always get sent to my E-mail that PayPal is not connected to
Good that you want to make more people aware! A general recommendation would be to never click any links in E-mails sent by PayPal, always log in directly to their website and check your account from there instead

Just received another copy of that e-mail that was good.

Here is the address it is showing from. service-jp@paypal.com

Here is the google translated copy, as it was a Japanese e-mail. Looks like they should have changed the date or updated the e-mail, the first one was before that date.
