Briefly mentioned it in this thread I created just yet, but yesterday I’ve bought this Japanese book from December 1995:

The book 新ゲームデザイン (New Game Design), written by Game Freak’s founder Satoshi Tajiri and released by Enix (ISBN: 978-4870258587) was released somewhere in December of 1995, and has roughly 15,000 copies sold. The cover of this book (see above) contains sprites of multiple mentioned Game Freak games, including some early beta sprites of Pokémon. Pages 153 to 159 mention the upcoming Pokémon games. Here an excellent article about it with HD scans of the pages, including rough translations (and thoughts of the author of the article).

Couldn’t resist this unique item from the beginning of Pokémon (or Pocket Monsters, as it was only known by at the time) that pre-dates the first Japanese Pokémon TCG cards by more than 10 months and predates the Japanese Pokémon GameBoy Games Red & Green, which marked the official launch of Pokémon on February 27, 1996 (first Pokémon Day) by about a month as well.
