Question for anyone who has collected these or is in the middle of trying to get these…
Do you feel the need to collect all of the reverse holo promos (winner vs ‘non winner’) or are you happy with just one version of them?
All of my Pokemon collection is English and pre E-Series which is why I’ve been looking into them recently. Curious to see what everyone else’s opinion is
I can’t remember off the top of my head but I think the mewtwo only has a winner version? I collected all of them but wasn’t really concerned if I got the winner or regular version.
You could be right there actually - I think possibly the Rocket’s Mewtwo and the Rocket’s Hitmonchan only have winner versions, the other three have winner/non winner variants.
I want them, but can’t say I feel particularly motivated to get both variants when it could go towards other cards (i.e some wonderful Legendary Collection reverse holos haha).
I got them all, but not all of them has a winner and non winner version. I think it depends on what you consider a complete collection. For me, I wanted them all. They aren’t the most expensive cards in the world, so it’s not a bad idea to complete the set 100%
At the time I was buying them were cheap enough I figured I might as well get both. If I were buying them now I would probably only get the non-winner version in cases where both exist.
There are also winner-stamped jumbo versions, but the winner stamp isn’t in foil. They can be seen here (along with all the other promos from this series):
There are no regular versions of the rocket’s Mewtwo/ rocket’s Hitmonchan, and professor elm doesn’t have a winner stamp version (despite TrollandToad having a photoshopped image of one on their website)
They’re an interesting set of promos as they represent the dying breath of the WotC era.
I consider them different cards, so I collected them both. Neither set was ever complete either, so you’ll need to either mix or get them both to have all of them.
For me it’s like any 1st ed WOTC set vs the unlimited; its the same cards to me so I get the cheaper version. The same way I only pick up Japanese Pikachu promos that don’t have an English counterpart. Its one of every art for me; the way they were released doesn’t much matter
Not always! A lot of the Promos were printed in massive quantities so that people could easily obtain them. Sure, some are very difficult to obtain/are expensive, but there’s plenty of stuff available for a very affordable price.
