Hey all, not trying to shill for Pokerev or anything (though he does seem like a good dude) just genuinely excited for the 1st Ed Base Set booster box opening happening today at 5 PM Central US.
Cant wait to see who gets what!

He’s making an absolute killing on that box compared to what him and TCA Gaming paid for it, I don’t blame them.
Agreed, as far as I can tell they sold all 36 packs at $2500. Plus its pretty rare to see one opened, so its a lot of fun to see!
I think they paid around $60k total with the buyers premium, and all the packs sold for $90k.
Honestly it just show how much potential there is for Base set. The market ate those up in 2 weeks. If I was more of a gambler I would have jumped in on a pack as well. Its all fun until your left with a Pokémon trainer…

I wonder how long it would take for them to get sold if it wasn’t a recorded live opening. Also, I can’t believe people pay $2,5k and give the experience of opening the pack away to someone else.
interestingly enough, he mentioned in a recent video he had a long waitlist for people who didn’t want the packs opened live (understandable). So I think they would have moved even faster if they weren’t trying to open them for the video.
So all the packs in the box went for a total of $90k and that was strictly under the condition that people weren’t allowed to open the packs that they paid for. And all the packs went in a couple of weeks.

The real lesson to be had here is that anyone able to buy a genuine box for less than like $90k is getting an absolute steal.

I do like the approach that pokerev has taken. There are plenty of already weighed, light packs on eBay if you want to buy a pack to keep it sealed or grade it. The only reason people were opting to keep their pack sealed from his livestream was to sandbag and see what cards were pulled live, then decide if they wanted to open their packs or not afterward. Or to get them, weigh them to see if they are heavy, and if not then resell them as unweighed straight from the box break.
It also helps with view were an audience numbers, if you know that every single pack in the box will be opened.
Yeah! no doubt people would have paid a bit more to not have them opened live. One thing that maybe balance out some of the cost though is that the boxes comes from an established person in the hobby. Speaking for myself, I’m willing to pay a bit more for a card if its from someone like Rev, Rusty, Scott, etc. because I trust what they are selling me. Especially with something like booster packs.
I also pay more for 4xx certs but don’t we all do that?
