1st Edition Dark Charizard strange markings found

I was going back and forth with someone on here who wanted to buy a PSA 9 1st Edition Dark Charizard from me, and he spotted what he thought was a small hair on the back of the case, and asked if I could confirm that it’s not sealed within the case or anything.

The “hair” (or eyelash was my guess) was in fact on the cards, right within the “M” of Pokemon. It looks like a very thin pen mark in the same of a lasso or something. No way a pen could do this without bleeding a tiny bit into the card… I check out another ungraded Unlimited Dark Zard and non-holo and neither have this morning. So I pull out my other graded identical card, a BGS … and guess what’s in the exact same position in the exact same shape?

Another tiny circle only Antman could have drawn! I bought those two cards years apart… can’t be coincidence that they’d get the same mark in the same spot… anyone come across this or know how this came to be perhaps? I’m more intrigued than upset at all, to be honest. Would be crazy if other people checked and began finding the mark on their card!

Hi,

I’ve seen lines like that before on WOTC cards (but not as large as in this case). I’m pretty sure it’s an imperfection from the “magenta layer” during the printing process.

If you look at pokemon cards with a magnifying glass you can see a lot of dots with different colors. I think it’s magenta, cyan, yellow and black and together they make all the colors when printing the cards. On my cards, these lines were the exact same color as the magenta dots so I assumed it’s an error when applying the magenta ink. Exactly why and how this happens I don’t know, but that’s my theory

Edit: You can even see the dots on some of the photos you attached

Could it be a fiber from the production of the paper? Maybe it picked up certain ink color more easily than other fibers used? Very interesting.

I wanna see the Dark Charizard…

Maybe a hair got stuck on the magenta roller that day
