1st edition shadowless Base Set Packs 1 of each artwork

I’m about to make an ebay listing for 3 packs of 1st edition shadowless base set english, blastoise, charizard and venosaur. Packs are in mint condition, I was going to list them at $5,100 CAD which comes out to ~ $3,900 USD.

Just wondering if you guys think that is too low or too high for ebay right now?

Thanks

Honestly, I would put them at $5000 USD with best offer. Unless you absolutely need the money in a short period of time I don’t think there is any reason to price them that low.

I wouldn’t say his price is low. Most packs earn less than $1000… That being said, I fully agree with going with a high price best offer if he’s not in too much of a hurry. He might earn $4000-4500 if he’s patient.

I didn’t mean that his price is low, I meant that pricing them at that point was setting too low of a ceiling for what he could potentially earn.

Agreed. He’s going to get offered $3000-3500. He has potential to earn more listing at $5000.

lol, that’s pretty interesting considering people who would buy the packs know the value already. you guys preying on dummies? an NYtimes article just talked about third-party book sellers on Amazon listing books at crazy prices, hoping to “scam” buyers who are unaware. nothing wrong with setting prices at whatever, but the logic behind this is interesting. I think on a rare item it might work, but with an item that is fairly common on eBay, it probably doesn’t work.

There’s 100 good reasons to list a valuable and in demand item like this at above current market value, and it has nothing to do with scamming unaware buyers lol

Not at all. The thing is these packs seem to do anywhere from $900-1500 so it’s really all over the place. If you’re in a hurry you can get an easy $3000 for the lot, but waiting a month or two you might get the higher end. That’s all we’re advising him to do really. It’s Best Offer, so people can offer whatever they want. It’s not a scam like the Amazon thing you’re talking about.

There’s no reason to set yourself at a price ceiling with high demand/low supply items. You yourself have some items priced above market price on your ebay. Would you say you are trying to prey on dummies?

If you want to sell then yes, $3900 O.B.O. is right on the money. If you are happy to wait for them to come up a bit more in price and aren’t in a hurry, I should think $4200-4500 is a good number that will put them higher in “lowest price” search results. Current market puts them right around $3,500 USD.

There’s no shame in pricing it above market. Do what works for you.

Where is the cheaper option?

Show me where you can consistently buy 1st ed base packs for significantly less than what is available on ebay; then the amazon reference would be somewhat relevant. Otherwise it doesn’t apply at all to this situation.

I would split them up. Maybe 1500usd for Char and 1000 for the other two. Shouldn’t take long for them to get hit.

all righty, looks like everyone is up on e4 still.

there are valid points made by all. i was trying to say there is a price threshold at which point the “overpricing” doesn’t help. my NYtimes reference was an extreme example where an item worth about $10-20 on the market is listed at much higher price points with the intent to trick a dummy, maximize profit.

can you see a grey line here?

also, words on the web don’t get delivered with my sarcasm bundled with it. Hehe.

Yes, waiting for you to submit your highest offer.

Thank you for all the replies everyone! I’m not so much in a rush to sell them so I’m going to take your advice and list slightly higher with the best offer option available!

Trade me one of your PSA 9 1st edition Charizards from your infinite collection for the lot?

I keep these in plastic cases, only took them out because of the glare. All three are on my trading block !

Let’s keep this thread updated as the official thread for this set of packs. I’m quite interested in their value.
