1st edition stamps on modern cards

How would you feel if they brought back 1st edition stamps to Pokémon?

Please no.

This has been brought up a few times lately. The consensus here is a h*ll no to that. It is hard enough to complete sets or keep up with species releases, so doubling that would be too much. Also, scalping is finally over after dominating for 1-2 years. Bringing back an exclusive stamp would recreate that.

Agreed with others. It serves no purpose than to create artificial scarcity and a booming secondary market. Both are not necessary in 2022. We already have massive sets with chase cards and scarce promos.

Here is a thread with a Scott video too.

I’d vote no, if there is going to be a new “thing introduced” for collectibility of cards, I’d prefer something other than bringing back the stamp.

I think that Pokemon has the release style down and has no need to introduce 1st Ed vs Unlimited releases again. The reason I say this is because the pullrates on most of the Alt Art cards for example is bad enough that they are generally going to be a strong chase and does not warrant needing a 1st Ed stamp compared to the WOTC cards to make them appear any more rare/scarce. WOTC 1st Ed has collector value today for many reasons even beyond the stamp, and I don’t think it’d make a big difference with modern cards because it’s just a much different time in Pokemon now than in 1999.

In addition, with how modern is structured, I feel it’d just make it more confusing than anything because the sets are massive compared to vintage sets as well.

I think there should be a 1st edition, shadowless, dark unlimited, unlimited and 4th print to every set.

I remember seeing 1st ed Neo Genesis packs in my LGS late 03 ish when I was there buying Ruby Sapphire packs. They were 20kr (=$3 at the time) more expensive than unlimited, and 25kr more than the EX packs.

If a Norwegian LGS could sell these packs for a mark up in late 03…well, that is all the dreadful imagery I need.
