With the possibility of Gen 8 being announced tomorrow, and what appears to be a damn fine live action Pokemon film coming in May, does anyone expect there to be another Pokemon Go! like uptick in values?
In my opinion there will not be a uptick in values. I think that Pokemon Go is something that will see in a decade or so. Contrary to the movie, which you can see and re-see a couple times, Pokemon Go is about comminment to âcatch them allâ. It is the video game becoming reality, in which you have to get out of your house in order to capture the pokemons. It requires an active action.
Regarding Gen 8, for the people outside pokemon is a negible event. It was for me when before I was again into Pokemon. I missed from Gen 3 to 7 so⊠But now things have changed and I am excited about what is to come. To me, the trend will be similar at what had happen when Gen 6 or 7 was released.
Anyway, we will see what happen. =)
Nope
These events will solidify the strength of the hobby.
No. If anything Im really wondering what these new tax laws on Ebay that have been being implemented for each state is going to do to card prices. Since people are going to have to start paying taxes on Ebay purchases how will that affect the cards?

Not gonna lie I was expecting this thread to be about a new version of Microsoft Outlook, and I was very ready to come in here and slag it off so damn bad.
@milhouse, You can pretend it is and slag it off!
i donât understand why corporate america lives (and dies) by outlook. it is a dated piece of techâŠ
i dont understand how only me and one other person were the only two that thought this was to do with mircosoft outlook lol
I also came here expecting to talk about Microsoft Outlook.
I just got an upgrade to Outlook and other Office products today. Cool thread, guys!
Why is Office 365 Outlook in my browser a million times better than Outlook 2016? Why canât I âlikeâ emails on the desktop? Instead I waste my life writing out a reply to effectively say the same thing a like would accomplish. Whereâs a Jackie Chan meme when I need one?
Also, donât tell me that the answer is something about an update or my operating system or whatever. Iâm here to complain about Outlook 2016, aka Outlook Three Years Ago.
1a) Outlook is amazing if youâre an IT manager with a thick âHow to run an office for Dummiesâ-book.
1b) Donât cry when it hangs your system because Outlook sucks
1c) Install Thunderbird, be cool.
- I do not think that Detective Pikachu will have an impact as big as Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go brought back a whole generation of handheld gamers back to Pokemon because they could experience Pokemon again as they knew. A smart phone nowadays is almost as big as a Gameboy Pocket, for many the variant of Gameboy they owned. Also, it came after a very bad era of Pokemon. Pokemon Generation 4 and 5 werenât that good (be honest here people) and it gave the right boost back into Pokemon. The Pokemon Company knew this well enough, thatâs why the anime had a new animation style for Sun and Moon and that latest animated movie was done by a completely different studio adding way more production value to it (even though, in my opinion, Zeraora is yet another lackluster boring âMythicâ Pokemon like so many since Gen 4).
What Detective Pikachu will do is do something new. The movie boosters will have 4 cards, with a super small set. Itâs a set everyone can complete and I think this will happen. Itâs a super easy entrance level set to complete for people that want to get back in Pokemon, open their own packs etc. Since the cards will be mostlikely fully tournament legal it will have plenty of exposure and maybe will lead to more live-action Pokemon movies. Having Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu obviously will make people wanna see it too. And itâs a good peek into how a creative director adapts a character like Charizard from an pencil drawing, to 8-bit graphic, to full multi million polygon CGI.
For me itâs more the question; how will the 3D Mewtwo Strikes Back remake affect the Pokemon hobby? Will they do reprints of the original WB Promos? Will it bring back people in a nostalgic fashion like Pokemon Go. Or wonât we see another Pokemon Go effect for a decadeâŠ?
I think GX ultra shiny booster boxes are going to become a very sought after product.
Low supply, plenty of people cracking them, beautiful set, low pull rates.
It has all the ingredients.
Interesting to see the thoughts of people at the beginning of this year.
A lot has happened since then.
What did make the prices of certain items jump so heavily?
Detective Pikachu, New gen, sale of $200+k Illustrator, all of them?
Justin Bieber
Hard to say really. But at the very least I can say I learned a lot about the hobby. Looking forward to using that knowledge in the new decade.
