Hi all I’m looking to make a relatively big purchase ($2500+) from an instagram/ebay user. He has a decent 95% rep on ebay over 1200 transaction and is fairly popular on insta. My question is how safe am I in purchasing something through Paypal only… I’ve never done it an always have gone through eBay. Is it worth paying the extra 10% and having him list the item on eBay or will paypal give me sufficient protection. It’s a lot of money for me and not nearly as much for him as he’s quite well off !
Depends how much you value peace of mind.
(Actual tip: Always protect yourself first)
What would be the best way to do that?
I’ve made several big purchases through Instagram. I would advise to always purchase via goods and services. Write an accurate description of what you are buying. If there is a psa number include that in your description. I only had one bad experience and PayPal refunded my 5700.00 dollars…good luck!
I suggest to have the seller send a paypal invoice. There’s no dispute on what the item is if they describe it perfectly. If they don’t you don’t pay until they fix it.
That works too…
After re-reading your thread properly and based on my limited experience, I realized i am not qualified to recommend a solution to the given scenario. However, i also want to add that i have never sent paypal f&f for any 1st time transaction regardless of seller feedback. Not because i dont trust them, but because things tend to get lost in the mail (i ship cross-continent, and domestic post is a mess; so this may not apply to you).
Also worth mentioning: paypal g&s wont help you for cases older than 6 months

Thanks Gary! Seems like its a lot of very small transactions.
That’s actually a shitty Ebay rep in my opinion but so long as the invoice has the detailed description of the item(s) you’re good to go.
About 15% non positive feed back (10 Negatives). I’d pass for sure.
Great advice so far thanks all. I’ll probably either find a way to meet up or pass on this.
