A Lesson From My 9 1st Ed Base Booster Box Auction

Since a box has shone up on eBay and after only a few hours is nearly $60,000.00 I thought I’d share a story that many of you already remember but others should find fun, or at least interesting.

This was one of my “draw attention” or “dog and pony show” listings. I overpriced it by about 40,000.00 cause I really didn’t want to sell them but if they had I may have cried but at that price I would have gotten over it…at least until now;) Please don’t ask where they are now cause I shouldn’t discuss that.

I linked an article below that was read millions of times that called me a “deranged seller”. I was scrutinized and criticized from every direction. I got messages and mail stating I was everything from greedy, a black mark on the hobby, and a fraud. Since I wouldn’t break up the lot all the ebayers wanting a single box called me selfish or worse. As if I owed them something. It was hard to deal with at times cause I was just trying to keep things fun and interesting. Instead, I got seriously persecuted. I really believed it would help our hobby.

Keep in mind, THIS WAS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS AGO and consider what that box is selling for on auction now which might sell for this amount and it’s only one box.

This is exactly why I don’t understand people who consistently say something is not worth this much and people are overpaying :joy::joy::joy:

Think www.ebay.com/usr/collectorscache?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 would like that box back referred to in the article?

Included name in scans … “Professional Sports Authenticators” … aka “PSA” … aka Gary is PSA … aka i’m sherlock holmes

Oh okay good. As long as they’re still… somewhere… :stuck_out_tongue: Sneaky, Gary! This almost makes me want to reconsider opening the booster pack I posted about, but alas… it just makes it more exciting!

Yeah, that was my eBay username at the time. Every few years I’ve changed it just for kicks.

I shot him an email. Maybe we can get a cool article published about it. He works for some super high viewership publishing companies.

My friend…the way I see it: you can always open it but, presumably, you can never seal it back up. Take your time and enjoy it:)

That would be awesome. Great idea. I’d happily talk to him.

So would I. You already got to be on TV. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: NVM I thought you sold it, I need to read before jumping to conclusions. Congratulations, you’ll probably be the first to make a million off pokemon. You were 1 of the first to see the value in the pokemon and made all the right investments.

Congrats Gary, if you weren’t before, you’re probably a millionaire now. I remember looking longingly at that listing. If I had that kind of money to throw around at the time I would have bought it.

But really, congrats for having the foresight to invest from the beginning and the patience to hold onto these items till today. Don’t listen to the haters. It will only be a matter of time until these boxes will sell for more than a million each.
