Hey Community,
thanks to @liron and his thread about a possible uncut sheet of the first series of Pocket Monsters Hyper Sticker Collection of Amada from 1996, I went through my own collection of the whole set and recognized a different holo pattern at one of my prism stickers. It’s actually only this one Wartortle sticker that seems to have a far more complex prism stlyle holo.
Does anybody also has this kind of prism stickers of the first set or any opinions on why they do exist? The only reason I can imagine would be a different print run. As i also recognized a different back color (yellow instead of white) it could be possible that there were different print runs or even different factories which produced this stickers. However, the text on the back is exactly the same.
I would be really grateful for any information.
Best wishes from Germany
Martin

Very interesting! Thank you so much for sharing.
I’ll have to once again go through these, I have quite a lot of these holo / prism ones (I absolutely love this old school pattern). Will see if I find this kind of a pattern in any others!
Okay - gone through EVERYTHING, found non that have this unique pattern - AWESOME
I wonder if more will pop up on Yahoo Auctions / ebay, will keep an eye out (:
Let us know if you find more of these / any other patterns (I really doubt there are any others in addition to that, but would be fascinating to find more for sure).
Hey @liron,
thanks for going through your collection! It actually seems that those different holo style patterns are a litte bit rarer than the regular ones. However, I got an eye on another one on a Japanese blog: asami-1120.hatenablog.com/entry/20090704/p1.
The Lucky posted there seems to have the same different holo pattern:
However, still got no explanation where those com from. My first thought were the extra stickers attached to the paper packages the first stickers and menkos were distributed, but checking my collection this doesn’t seem to be the case:
Kind regards from Germany

PS: Having a new collection goal is a wonderful thing!
@fushigibana - That pattern is beautiful indeed (:
As a side-note - what’s your experience with the sticker cases? Do you own them as well?
Was very lucky to pick a sealed one, that looks just like this:
thanks for your meassage. Amada made a lot of additional merchandise for the first Hyper Sticker and Hyper Menko sets. There are albums, puzzles and cases like the one you posted. Actually, I don’t think that they are that rare. You can find a lot of them on Yahoo and Mercari. However, prices have risen a little bit since I started collecting them. Personally I think that those cases are a good addition to a collection, especially if you want to collect all the differen versions. However, it’s a little bit annoying to store them. >.<
The most unique item I have in my collection is a dispenser for stickers I bought a couple of weeks ago. It’s basically a gumball machine in shape of a Pokéball in which you can put about 100 stickers. If somebody inserts a coin and turns the little handle around, one single sticker is dispensed. However, I don’t think that those were actually used in shops. In my understanding it’s more like a fun gimmick to play with, as the description says that you can insert every possible coin from one to five hundred yen. Not only that, the instruction literally encourages you to collect more and more money (どんどんお金をためて). The question is from who? (Imagine a boy inserting the common stickers, walking around in school and offering his friends one try for a golden sticker for “only” 500 Yen >.<).
Kind regards from Germany

Suuch cool items** I’ll have to check what I have in my collection.
Maybe when it ‘‘encourages you to save money’’ it’s meant to be like a piggy-bank where you can store money and have fun collecting the stickers, like a reversed psychology approach to teach kids about saving some money XD @fushigibana,
Hey Andrea,
I would love to see some items of your collection! Did you eventually find some stickers with the alternative holo pattern?
Best wishes from Germany

Hey @gabrielgv,
that is definitely true! I got some sealed booster packs from the second Amada set listed on ebay for 15 Euro (negotiable) each and nobody seems to care about them. However, that is the reason why I started collecting them a while ago. They are still very affordable and also the artwork isn’t too bad in my opinion. Instead of chasing cards I will never be able to pay for, I decided to focuss on those Amada stuff like stickers and menko. At least, in this niche it’s still possible to achieve collecting goals!
This is awesome. I will say this, nothing and I mean absolutely NOTHING; beats 90’s Japanese package artwork. I really enjoyed this this thread, great job guys.
