Annoying eBay story

I had to post my eBay story from today because I feel like a crazy person dealing with this guy and I need to vent to smart people who understand my side.

I’ve been looking to pick up M Charizard 108/106 from Flashfire for a while and found one I thought was minty. Messaged the guy for a picture of the back of the card (first bad sign) and he sent me a potato photo but it looked clean. I asked him if there was any whitening or problems I couldn’t see from the picture. He said it’s brand new mint with zero whitening. So I pulled the trigger.

Yesterday I received a completely warped, whitened edged, 69/106 Charizard! I was so unbelievably annoyed. I have to think a ton of people get those two cards confused, they look exactly the same. The picture from his listing shows a card with 108/106 in the bottom right so clearly that was a stock photo and his title of the listing is “x1 MEGA M Charizard EX 108/106 FlashFire Secret Rare MINT Pokemon Card”.

I’ve set the stage…

I messaged him saying he sent me the wrong card and it definitely wasn’t MINT. He immediately got defensive about the condition, blaming me for the whitening. I calmly replied that it was irrelevant because he sent me the wrong card (should have never brought up condition with him but I was too annoyed). He said that he never claimed the card was the 108/106 in his listing and couldn’t give me a refund. I said “your title literally has the numbers 108/106 in it”. He says yeah but it’s not in my description, that’s what matters. What!!! I then called him out on the fake picture and the fact that the title definitely needs to tell me the proper card and I’m entitled to a return and full refund. Then he goes back to condition saying he can’t accept a return because I ruined the condition and asked me for pictures of what I did to the card. I sent him two scans of front and back. He replies saying “that card is MINT! what’s the problem? It’s still a rare card whats the difference”. I explained the 108 is a secret rare, harder to pull, need it to complete set, etc, etc. He hasn’t replied so I’ll have to go through eBay return and probably need them to step in…blah.

I can’t stand arguing with people on eBay who clearly have no experience selling Pokemon cards. But the stuff with him not ever saying it was 108 I was like what is happening? Am I in crazy town? It’s like him sending me a Farfetch’d when his title said Charizard. “Dude my description just says its a Pokemon card, I never said which pokemon” I’m obviously being dramatic because these cards are so damn similar but argh, frustrating.

Ugggg sorry for the long post, just needed to vent. Thanks for reading.

Sorry to hear that. I suggest either sending it back for a refund or starting a claim :slightly_frowning_face:

I just finished the return request. I’m not expecting a response from him so I’ll ask eBay to step in in 3 days.

For anyone interested how things ended…

The guy changed his tune once I got eBay involved. He apologized for everything. I still gave him neutral feedback for the way he treated me but he eventually made it right. Oh eBay…you always keep me on my toes.

I just had my own recent bad experience with buying the secret rare m charizard ex, 107. Photo was mint looked authentic. I got, a fake card with a huge crease in it. I got a refund, but seeing so many fake secret flashfire charizards flooding ebay, then this story, I am thinking to wait and hopefully just buy/trade for them in person. I missed a few other good auctions because of fear of fakes.

I was wondering why I see so many fakes of these cards. Weird. I managed to pick up a mint 108 today. Finally got my card.

Right? Frustrating.

It is because naive ebayers and poor unsuspecting parents/grandparents are buying these at flea markets and from ebay.

this is pretty smellyness.

I actuaslly bought a pack here at one of these cheap shop places that sells cheap stuff and they were at counter ofr like 2 bucks for a box of " Stiem siieieige "

Man youd think it would be like illegal as shit, says the pokemon companies information on the back of the boxes and erryting.

but also

I mean i dont want to be an asshole… people want to make money… whatever, but… still its kind of shit for all the kids that go to school with them and everyone bags them for being fake… I think that alone is just scummery of the companies printing this bullterd to put kids in that situation.

Damn talk about filling the market with more garbage.
Glad to hear you got it sorted out psychicking, ive lost count of the amount ebay cases ive had to open due to negligence and miss informed sellers, but luckily its been in my favor every time.

My most recent was from a “no stage” Blastoise i purchase, hounded the seller for more photos prior to the auction ended but alas i received none and bit the bullet and it worth face value to what i paid which was like £15 incl postage, pretty badly damaged with creases etc.

Another one that pretty funny was a Pokemon Tempest Gift Box purchase, after waiting a long time it finally arrived, the package felt very light and thin in its shape, inside was a shoe box lid lol. Managed to get a refund of course although it was much more of a process since it was through paypal.

Generally though if the price is right then its worth the risk for me.
Cigarette smoke aggravates me more than anything

I had a similar experience with Flashfire Charizards. I ordered the 13/106 Zard but got the same one from Evolutions instead! Fortunately I had an opposite reaction from the seller, full refund and told me to keep the card.
