Argentine Burger King and McDonald's Releases

Not too long ago I heard about the existence of a ‘PLATINUM’ stamped Spanish 2009 Burger King Pikachu released exclusively in Argentina. Since and Eevee was in that collection in English I saw what I could find about it.

As far as I can tell, there has been one McDonald’s release (2012) and two Burger King releases (2008, 2009) in Spanish and in Argentina.

I have four photos taken from Mercadolibre, Argentina’s most popular auction site. Five of the nine cards lists are in very rough shape and much to my disappointment, Eevee was not among them. I also came across a website specifically mentioning the 2009 Burger King Release in Argentina. The photo used is low quality and is of the English release but I don’t believe this detracts from the evidence.

Below are the card lists, I believe were released in Spanish in Argentina, from their respective companies and years. These list are from the Bulbapedia articles of the English releases.

McDonald’s Collection 2012

These cards are confetti holofoil with the Mcdonald’s golden arches logo in yellow in the bottom right hand corner of the artwork.
No. Card name
1/12 Servine
2/12 Pansage
3/12 Dwebble
4/12 Pignite
5/12 Dewott
6/12 Emolga
7/12 Woobat
8/12 Drilbur
9/12 Purrloin
10/12 Scraggy
11/12 Klang
12/12 Axew

Burger King 2008 Collection
These cards are reverse-holofoil stamped with ‘DIAMANTE&PERLA’ [DIAMOND&PEARL] in the bottom right hand corner of the artwork. Bulbapedia mentioned that most, if not all, were cut left of center. There is no mention of the Argentine release so it is possible that the off center cut only effects the English release.
No. Card name
76/130 Chimchar
49/130 Grotle
52/123 Happiny
6/130 Lucario
9/130 Manaphy
56/130 Monferno
35/130 Pachirisu
94/123 Pikachu
93/130 Piplup
58/130 Prinplup
98/130 Shinx
103/130 Turtwig

Burger King 2009 Collection
These cards are reverse-holofoil stamped with ‘PLATINUM’ in the bottom right hand corner of the artwork.
No. Card name
56/100 Chimchar
16/106 Dialga
62/100 Eevee
4/146 Giratina
20/100 Glaceon
24/100 Leafeon
106/146 Meowth
26/106 Palkia
45/100 Pichu
70/100 Pikachu

If you have more information to add or have a Spanish 2009 BK Eevee I would be happy to hear about it.

Yesterday I went to some card shops in my country in order to find Spanish Unseen Forces commons (which might be less than $1 USD each). I have not found any Spanish Unseen Forces cards … but I ended finding Spanish cards from Burger King 2009. I ended finding Chimchar, Pikachu, Dialga and Meowth

The Pikachu took me by surprise …

I’ve also seen these sets in possesion of non-argentinian South American collectors. With all of this, I personally think that this Burger King Promotion was available in all South America between 2009 and 2010 (and probably Central America and Mexico as well, but more evidence is needed). However, information of this campaign has not been well preserved and the only resource that have been found was from an old post of an argentinian website. I thought it was going to be extremely difficult to find, but it seems it was more common than I thought …

and also I’ve found Emolga from McDonald’s 2012 in Spanish. I’ve heard of those cards in the past.

I don’t remember well if 2012 campaign was held in Peru … I was too child, sorry …

But what I remember was that 2011 campaign was held in Peru (no idea if it was held in other latam countries as well). Those were my first cards I’ve ever got. Cards have Confetti Holo pattern.

In Peru, during this campaign 4 toys were distributed as well: Pikachu (with red launcher), Reshiram, Zekrom and Zoroark. Each Happy Meal came with 1 random TCG card in Spanish from the 12 that were available.

List of cards (Spanish):

  • 1/12 Snivy
  • 2/12 Maractus
  • 3/12 Tepig
  • 4/12 Oshawott
  • 5/12 Alomomola
  • 6/12 Blitzle
  • 7/12 Munna
  • 8/12 Sandile
  • 9/12 Zorua
  • 10/12 Klink
  • 11/12 Pidove
  • 12/12 Audino

These photos come from my personal collection. I’m only missing 4 cards to complete the set in Spanish: Maractus, Blitzle, Sandile and Audino.

Hope you find this info as helpful.

Oh, didn’t knew the 2012 McDonald’s set was released in Spanish. Thanks for the new info!

And I’m glad 2012 doesn’t contain a Pikachu, otherwise I had to go hunting again.
