I just read the following on Twitter about the summary of an upcoming Pokémon anime episode:
The Summary makes it seem like Ash’/Satoshi’s Pikachu evolves into Raichu. I have the feeling it’s kinda like a book teaser where you now want to watch this specific episode to see exactly what’s going to happen. I personally think some other Pikachu evolves into Raichu while Ash’s/Satochi’s Pikachu is temporarily missing, or something like that.
But, let’s just assume it is indeed as it states and Ash’/Satoshi’s Pikachu will evolve into Raichu 25 years after the Pokémon anime started. What are your thoughts about that? Bold move by the anime producers? Do you love it, hate it, or don’t care? They might even get rid of Ash himself next and have a different trainer.
Maybe I should immediately started selling my entire Pikachu collection and start start rolling in the Raichu cards. /s
I don’t think they’ll do it, but I would WELCOME it as a bold choice. Maybe the spotlight would be handed down to another Pokemon. They’ve been focusing a lot on Eevee as of late - so much so that it’s becoming a mascot of its own. Eevee is actually a solid representation of the series since the Pokemon is ALL about evolution.
There was a DP epsiode where Pikachu gets his ass handed to him by a Raichu and Ash considers evolving him so he can take down the Raichu. Pikachu ends up refusing the thunderstone and comes back and destroys Raichu
I would be sad if they decided to now evolve him. If they wanted to, they should’ve done it in Alola and made him the pancake raichu lol
Maybe Pikachu (d)evolves into Pichu due to an overflow error. Who even knows how much experience our beloved electric mouse has gathered up to this point?

*Narrator’s voice*: As Ash’s eyes slowly opened he gazed over at Pikachu beside him and breathed a sigh of relief, it was only a dream.
Ash: Pikachu*!!*
Everyone:
You know what? I wouldn’t mind if they did a troll episode where either Ash grabs the thunderstone just barely before the evolution or come up with some reason to devolve it back into Pikachu after a few episodes.
there are quotes around the thunderstone and some of the plot translations seem to infer that they are fake ones. maybe Ash’s pikachu will temporarily be a raichu by some sort of trick or just convenient plot writing, but there is no way he is staying that way.
I honestly would probably like if Pikachu finally evolved, that would be a quite an unbelievably memorable thing for the 25th anniversary
Or we discover a new form of evolution caused by late level evolution where the Pokemon looks closer to it’s starting evolution. Would be an interesting mechanic.
I highly doubt they will evolve Pikachu, he has solidified himself in history as one of the faces of pokemon, hes way too popular to throw fans a curve ball like that, I feel like there would be backlash from the majority. Just my opinion.
That is a good question which I don’t know the answer to!
I’m glad they did move away from that design, so I guess I probably wouldn’t be much of a fan if they hadn’t.
