Base Set Booster Packs

Hey guys, need some more insight once again!

I came across a guy near me, who’s a fellow collector and he has a few unopened booster of the base set as well as neo discovery, Fossil, gym heroes, team rocket, jungle, base 2, and gym challenge.

He seems to have kept all his things in very very good condition.

His pricing is:

Base Set $60/p

Jungle $25 /p (or $22.50 as an add on)

Fossil $24 /p (or $21.50 as an add on)

Base 2 $25/p (or $22.50 as an add on)

Team Rocket $25 /p (or $22.50 as an add on)

Gym Heroes $28 (or $25.00 as an add on)

Gym Challenge $28 (or $25.00 as an add on)

Neo Discovery $37 (or $35 as an add on)

I’m wondering if it’s be a good idea to go in on some of these since I’m still pretty new. I plan to collect the base set at some point very slowly. Will these packs contain 1st editions since they’re the Base set (1?) Packs? To my understanding base set 2 has no first editions while base set (1?) Has all first editions.

Thanks for the help guys!

The base set packs will only have Unlimited cards in them. Assume everything he has is weighed.

Weighed? What does that mean?

Also, what base set packs have the first edition cards?

People can weigh the packs with scales to get a rough idea if there is a good card inside or not. I doubt you will find any holographic cards in the packs he has if he’s a collector who knows his stuff.

The only base set packs with 1st edition cards are the 1st edition base packs. Those packs go for around $1000.

Not a rough idea with these. They are extremely easy to weigh and distinguish between holo or non-holo.

1st edition has a stamp on the cards and package.

Oh alright good to know! Saved me there. I’ll just look into his singles then.

One more thing, I was told that after a certain year they stopped making 1st edition cards or something? How exactly does that work?

1st Edition runs were produced for every set (except Base Set 2) up to and including Neo Destiny.
