Recently aquired this charizard, can anyone tell me what type of error this might be in the top left?
This reminds me of the texture that we see with the encased 2000 Commemorative Mew. Perhaps it was affected by heat or a chemical?
If this was an obstruction error, it wouldn’t stop at the holo box edge.
If this was a retained obstruction, we would see an object on top of the holo layer and under the printed ink.
An insufficient ink or additional ink error would not lead to an extreme difference in texture.
It looks like someone used a chemical (e.g., PlastX or something similar) to clean or polish the holo and then realized that it adversely affected the texture of the card. @PeteDenness how did you obtain the card? Did the owner provide any context?
Looks like residue from something sticky or viscous.
Its hard to really tell from the image what exactly is going on, but it doesn’t really strike me as am error immediately. My first impression is that it feels like tape damage
Yeah like in the above you can see how it leaves that weird texture on the holo and removes all the way down to the silver outside the holo part
Similar thing happening here.
I think those are just chips on a card that wasn’t properly protected. You can see them all over the card in the first picture (see Charizard’s body and the text around the second attack), and I’ve seen other Base Set cards with that kind of damage. No clue what’s happening with the holo though.
Maybe, it’s just one explanation of many. I just noticed that damage seems to be concentrated in the corner
Hi, thanks for the input on this. I got it in an online auction , so no history or anything to go on. Im pretty sure its not residue from tape etc, as the holo has the same smoothness in the affected and non affected areas. A chemical cleaner may make sense. It cost me 100 dollars, so no great loss if its not an error, just thought it was worth taking the chance.
