I was skimming eBay today looking at 1st Ed Base Set Magikarp cards, and I noticed one that is missing the pupil in his eye. I have never seen this before until now. On the left is what I believe is an error and on the right is my personal copy:
Thoughts? Is this a known error?

Is the card on the left missing the pupil in person or just a scan? If it’s just a photo, scans dust removal setting can remove pupils. I’ve had it happen on my base tangela almost every time I listed a copy!
Did it ever really have a one?
Unfortunately don’t have the card in-person, only the scan. That would make sense though, given it’s such a small black dot relative to the overly white portion of the eye, so the scanner is bound to have an impact perhaps from the light and scanning process. I can imagine how Tangela would be impacted now too.
I’ll have to experiment scanning mine to see if I can reproduce the result. Thanks for the info.
As much as I want another base set error that is most likely the scenario! 
Agreed with @smpratte! I’ve had pupils disappear on occasion from these WoTC illustrations. 
This has also happened with vending megneton scans. I once bought one from you expecting it to be soul-less.
