Base Set Shadowless full set in varying conditions.

Hi,

Firstly, hope everyone is doing well and is safe. It’s my first post here so go easy on me.
I’m a sporadic collector so not entirely sure what the right thing to do here is.

I picked up a full set of shadowless base set (including Charizard) a few years ago. Condition could be varying from PSA to 5 to 9 (I’m not entirely sure neither have I checked all the cards tbh). I just wanted to ask is it worth getting them graded in the worse scenario say all cards are PSA 4-6 and then sell it? Or is not worth getting graded and just sell as is.

Also any ideas what a full set is worth like in today’s market? Apologies if any of these questions have been asked a million times already

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton!

Probably grade the Charizard and any holo over a PSA 7-8.

@bdog07 , Thanks for the response. So sell them separately and not a full set as a whole?

It’s hard to say. The higher the grade, the more likely your going to want to sell individually. For example if you have a random PSA 9 holo in a played shadowless set, your not going to get much more value for the whole if that makes sense(people will pay the price for a played set).

What I would probably do is grade the nicer condition things and The Charizard. The rest I would sell as a partial played set to someone wanting to make a binder set.

@bdog07, Makes sense. Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the help. Hope you have a great day ahead!

I’d grade every holo. There is a market for low grade shadowless cards

You should grade all of the holos because there are so many people chasing a complete shadowless set. Even if the holos were to grade low like you said, there is still someone out there who will buy the lower grades because of not being able to afford the higher graded example of the card.

Thank you so much @belch, @electrodude, I’ll get the holos graded. I’m sure they grade between 6-9. There are some 8s and 9s in there surely.

It is almost always more profitable to sell cards individually than in complete sets. And when it comes to Base Set there is huge demand for every type of holo in every type of grade. So you’re better off getting them all graded individually as long as they’re at least decent condition.

@hyruleguardian, Agreed. I’ll grade the holos and sell the set of commons and uncommons and non-holo rares separately. Thanks!

I would keep it in a binder and stare at it

@papafrankgod, Haha. I totally agree. Had it for a while now. TIme to part ways. Get them 1st editions in

Grade if you want to sell, binder if you want to keep. I hate the clunky slabs

I would definitely grade all of the Holo cards and sell them individually if your plan is to sell. Complete sets almost never fetch as much as the cards would sell for individually.

Shadowless 6s are a loser for sure (except char).

Completely agree with this. There just aren’t a lot of complete PSA set collectors who will settle for grades of 6 or less. At that point people are more likely to just be binder collectors.

But like you said, Charizard is an exception (because the people buying the Zard aren’t necessarily collecting the complete set).

I can agree with you both are saying for the most part(and I have a complete PSA 6 shadowless set.)

BUT there is a select shadowless 6’s that have seen a decent price rise, and if you search PSA 6 shadowless sales and auctions on ebay you can see they are and have been active for what they are.

If someone is on a tight budget and wants to have a graded set even a PSA 6 shadowless set will run you $2000+ now so I can why there is and will be some demand for these cards but its minimal. If we keep seeing big prices jumps every few years and higher grades become more unobtainable its really anybody guess long term though, but right now compared to PSA 8+ shadowless its pretty much a no contest.
