Always loved how menacing and beefy venusaur looked. He was my starter in blue version and ive loved him ever since. Blastoise is amazing as well though, a very close second.

Blastoise for me, solely due to nostalgia. Blue was my first Pokémon game and I usually choose Squirtle as a starter. Therefore I always wanted to have a Base Set Blastoise card as a kid. Actually I only found out as a young adult that Charizard is way more popular than Blastoise.

Squirtle is my favourite pokémon so Blastoise is the obvious answer. I was also a pokémon blue person when i was a child so the nostalgia plays a big part.
I thought charizard would be doing better in the poll

Bulbasaur was my first Pokemon card I owned so it will always have a special place in my heart. Cards don’t evolve though unfortunately so I never had a connection with Venusaur until I got one much later on.
I was gifted Pokemon Blue for Christmas before I got my Bulbasaur card though so obviously I chose Squirtle. For that reason Blastoise will always be my favourite Kanto starter having gone through the entire game with him.
I can still hear the gen 1 Hydro pump while I write this.
I would rather have the Charizard card, but if I was playing a video game I’d use Venusaur. Blastoise is alright, but not really my thing. I love the giant frog dinosaur plant frog green jumbo frog dinosaur plant

E4 really got desensitized towards the charizard, that’s surprising.
I voted Venusaur, but to be honest I have mixed feelings about that artwork: sure it looks mystical, almost primordial, but it’s indeed very different from what I expect from a venusaur.
Probably only better than the original sprite lmao

For the record, I would take Blastoise over Charizard overall, but specifically when it comes to the cards in base set, I’d have to lean Charizard. I still get excited when I see these cards for the millionth time - the original hype was that strong, haha.
Charizard may be over hyped today but in the day It was The Boss. Plus in the Anime it was just awesome! I loved its “Nope not doing that Ash” attitude.
