Bear Walker x Pokemon Skateboards

I purchased one of the new Bear Walker skateboards that dropped yesterday on the Pokemon Center website. I’m considering taking it out of the box and actually riding it but I noticed it doesn’t have grip tape? On the product description it says that no grip tape is needed due to the textured surface but I’m wondering how true that is. Does anyone here have a previous drop they actually ride? If you do, have you noticed any wear on the surface from not using grip tape?

I have been skateboarding for over 15 years and under no circumstances would I ever choose to ride one of those. They are strictly for display, and would be TERRIBLE if used, I don’t care what they tell you. If you want a skateboard to ride buy a real one made by skateboarders.

That being said it’s yours to do with whatever you want so enjoy it to the fullest, but you have my opinion! Hope this helps!

@howleatthemoon, appreciate the thoughts. I’ve been riding for about the same amount of time and had similar thoughts about these boards. I find it hard to believe their claim of “no grip tape needed”. I do have my daily rider but I was curious if people actually rode this or just kept them for display. Most likely will keep it on the rack for display

I agree that those boards shouldn’t be used for riding. I have one of the pikachu ones that I tried writing, and I almost died a few times, lol. The board is OK for casual cruising but not for carving hills. The board gets wheel bite like crazy and it’s already on a riser.

I love skateboarding myself and noticed major design flaws. For one there isn’t enough arch to actually do tricks with much success. Then the lack of grip tape. I wouldn’t trust the trucks or bearings in the wheels.

As far as visual design they are amazing especially these new eevelution ones. I just personally would never actually use one for skateboarding

@burritos760, you’re totally right about the lack of carveouts for the wheels. I can see how you’d get wheel bite like crazy.

@mcorey777, Agree with you. Keeping it as a decorative wall piece is looking like the way to go.

they always looked like cruiser boards to me. If i can’t grip a board then I’m not riding it.
