What are the best card sleeves for putting cards in a binder? The thin penny sleeves are too flimsy to insert into the page, and the thicker sleeves fit too tightly… any recommendations would be appreciated!
I personally use a top loading binder with just dragon shield resealable, I feel this is the best way to protect and be able to look at the back of my cards too
+1 here, great combo! Can also use these binder pages with another binder and separate sets with differing # of cards, etc. This way you are not held back by the 360 card binders.
@david do you use a perfect fit sleeve with the dragon shield sleeves as well or just the single sleeve?
I’d recommend the use of a perfect sleeve be it standard or resealable (which will prevent air bubbles from forming so that it slims down the card) in order to avoid surface scratching since the standard size sleeves are a bit tougher than the inner ones.
No perfect fits for me. I found I nicked cards about 2% of the time trying to get them into the sleeve. Plus, I think the side loading design combined with the zipper should be enough to protect from dust.
I use KMC Perfect Fit Sleeves and put those into Ultra Pro Premium binders. I know others have said these sleeves can damage cards, but I have sleeved probably more than ten thousand cards with these sleeves and have not had a problem (I buy the sleeves by the case and use them for multiple games/collections - games that see substantial play get double sleeved). For non binder storage in boxes I use the cheap penny sleeves but I don’t like the way these go into a binder page.
I have been using KMC Perfect Fit with clear Ultra Pro Deck Protector sleeves for years now, though I am considering other secondary sleeves given the rise of a few different types.
I have been surprised by the up-serge of Katana sleeves that are appearing on shelves this year. I recently bought some to replace my old MTG deck sleeves and loved the quality and the fact that they don’t have any watermark makes it all the more appealing. My only concern is clarity - do you have any pictures of the clear ones with cards inside?
I like kmc super series. They are a bit bigger 92 times 66 maybe to help with double sleeve? Even though I don’t like double sleeve. The kmc perfect fit can cause little Nick by accident when putting it in. But once double sleeve your card is less likely to cause a Nick by taking it in and out of the bigger sleeve. i tried the kmc clear bigger sleeve but feels to tight, I didn’t like that one. I just like the sliver one I have and the gold one I brought 8 years ago
I use KMC perfect fits and Dragon Shield clear classic sleeves. The Dragon Shields are similar to the Ultra Pro deck protectors, except they are slightly heavier gauge and have no watermark. If you like to handle cards from your binder, I highly recommend getting something more heavy duty than traditional penny sleeves. And perfect fits prevent dust and other particulate matter from damaging/clouding/scratching the surface of your cards.
Personally I use standard UltraPRO sleeves and a Dex Binder 9. The sleeves are a little taller than the cards, but fit very snugly in the pockets of the binder and don’t allow for a lot of movement which is perfect
I use Dragon Shield sleeves with a Dragon Shield binder, find that they fit in perfectly (same company so it makes sense). I don’t double sleeve anymore as I didn’t like the added thickness. I had a binder full of double sleeved cards and it was just too thick for me, almost doubled the thickness which I didn’t enjoy. I’m not too concerned about humidity/damage as I keep them temperature and humidity controlled. If you live in a humid area though, I’ve heard people recommend double sleeving as a measure to combat that.
KMC perfect fit inside KMC super black.
I have been experimenting with other sleeves this month before I start a new binder set including ultra pro deck guard, ultra pro perfect fit. So far The KMC perfect fit remain ideal to me if you know what you’re doing when you take them in and out of sleeve. I put them in my binder with the intention of occasionally taking out to appreciate so double sleeving is essential.
I just do penny sleeves (ultra pro card sleeves) and then put them in a side loading binder (ultra pro pro binder). I pay a little more for the zipper but the non-zipper version is fine
Are you using a top loading binder because penny sleeves seem to work fine for my personal tastes. I agree they’re too flimsy for anything else.
I use like the generic binder found at Target. I’ve found that some binders don’t fit the binder pages that well based on where the holes line up so for some binders the pages stick out of the top a little bit. The target ones match up well though so I just buy those.
Found a link, the Avery ones don’t fit well, these ones do in my experience. Perhaps there are more binders that also fit nicely.
