I’m torn between Emerald and Mystery Dungeon Red. I put so many hours into both of them. I’ll probably put Emerald slightly on top just because the music pops up into my head every once in a while.
As Pokémon Emerald is in my opinion the best Pokémon game of all time, the answer to this question is pretty clear. However, I do think that FireRed and LeafGreen are the most underrated Pokémon games of all time and they are also in my Top 5 Pokémon games. Still, nothing beats Emerald.
I’m gonna have to agree with those who said Emerald. Firered and Leafgreen are great but it’s annoying that you can’t trade any Pokemon from the Hoenn games until after you finish the post game. It would be a lot of fun to through Kanto using pokemon from Hoenn.
Also, Pokemon like Golbat that were given evolutions after Red/Blue can’t evolve until after you get the national Pokédex
Fire Red was highly addictive for me and if you had asked me back then I’d have said that but in retrospect Emerald was even better in terms of how much you could do and the story
If its pure gba only then its definetely emerald. However ive played more hours on crystal altogether, and enjoyed it just as much on the gba, and the SP.
Agreed. It is a two way street though. You also can’t play through Hoenn with Kanto Pokemon because you don’t get the national dex in Emerald until after you beat the elite 4. I don’t understand why game freak decided to do that. It would be so cool to play through either game with your favorite Pokemon from each region
Same! I played R/B/Y when they came out so I thought it was super cool to get the games again but with better graphics and features. They did a great job of keeping true to the originals and adding enough new stuff for it to feel fresh and unique.
FireRed and LeafGreen for sure. Almost exact one for one remakes of the original blue and red but enough quality of life improvements to make the originals obsolete. Exactly what a remake should be. I still like the originals because of nostalgia but with FRLG there’s really no reason to ever go back to them.
And I have to disagree with some of the comments above, I’m glad the main story of the game was limited to just Kanto pokemon. It wouldn’t have felt like the original red and blue if they added all the new pokemon. Sure in the post-game it’s fine but the main game should only be kanto pokemon.
