I want to keep a closer eye on this. is there a particular website that can help keep track of special products, limited edition box set, promos and sets?

The link below has a decent list, but it doesn’t contain every release. When I asked this question, it was suggested to start an E4 thread where we can keep up to date on any releases that fly under the radar. We could just make that this thread!

I am interested in this keeping up with Japanese promo releases as well. Usually I just look at Bulbapedia or try searching under keywords on Ebay. I don’t know of any specific sites that are trustworthy for pre-ordering so I don’t really purchase that much right now.

Your best bet is to follow the social media accounts of the Pokemon Company Japan / Creatures as they tend to promote set releases, new merchandise and events. 
The News page of Pokébeach usually mentions most pre-releases and upcoming set/products, including revealed artworks for new sets.
Bulbapedia is updated regularly and ahead of time as well. It already mentions the Japanese Thunderclap Spark set that will be released on July 6th in Japan, as well as the name of the set that will be released after it (Fairy Rise).
Those are the main two resources (as well as pre-orders I come across by accident on eBay) to keep track of upcoming releases in both Japanese or English.
