Best WOTC booster box for the money and why

Hey guys! Wanted to ask the experts here what their opinion is on the best booster box to buy right now for the money for WOTC ONLY. Curious to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Jungle 1st, even after price spike. PSA 10 common pikachu sells for $40 - you CAN NOT discount a common card in a tiny 64 card set being worth that much. Plus the non holo rares in psa 10 can be worth $30-$50 each. And every non holo rare is a pokemon, no rare trainers. And don’t let me get started on if you pull a PSA 10 holo. For a box you can still get for $3500, that’s a winning combo.

King of value is Jungle 1st edition, period.

Disregard my post. I see you want WOTC only. In that case, grab as much 1st Edition Base Sealed, 1st Edition Jungle and Skyridge as possible.

I agree with ZandG above.

I’ll give you a different answer than what most people will say here. Before commenting, I will say that every WOTC box is a solid choice. Even most of every EX box isn’t bad. You really can’t go wrong with the way the market seems to be trending. However, looking super far ahead, I see a few of the Diamond and Pearl area boxes and sets increasing in value. Seeing as how they are mostly sub 800, I think those are always a solid buy.

If I were to go all in on sealed, it would have to be for Base Set Unlimited. I definitely think that that has the most potential growth for the $3500 in the long term. Even if Pokemon completely collapses, there will always be a market for the Base Set. Also, I would only be interesting in “investing” in items that I personally enjoy. I don’t have that same affinity for the other WotC sets. (Other than that, Gym Challenge is my favorite WotC set.)

Great stuff guys. Doing my own personal research and kinda looking at the math side of things, Jungle certainly seems to be like the best investment to me, but base certainly has more room to grow. Base is still what most people remember from the golden age.

I feel like Base Set boxes will always be worth more, if only slightly higher than jungle/fossil/rocket/gym. But jungle first edition is not far behind at all

The box appeal + the amazing cards in the set will definitely help sustain long term value

Prices for both boxes are fairly similar too, jungle first Ed a bit cheaper

If you’re going to invest in a box though, buy a mint condition one even if it’s paying a small premium. Also Base Set 2 is good value if you can get a mint one for ~$2000 IMO

If you are looking to open a box then base set is not better than a first edition WOTC box of jungle for the reasons mentioned above regarding pulls.

If sealed box investing is what you want then base set is just fine but I wonder if the scarcity of first edition WOTC boxes will make the sealed box price even up with unlimited base eventually. There were a lot of unlimited base boxes made compared to first edition boxes I think.

That’s what I’m wondering… you still seem to see a lot of first edition fossil, jungle, team rocket floating around. At what point do these prices skyrocket due to scarcity? Gotta be a lot more base unlimited at this point.

Which box yields the the most expensive cards for price? Neo genesis.

Which box yields the most expensive cards that can grade well? Neo destiny.

Pick either of them - you won’t lose.

Also if you’re going to buy a box as an investment, there are many good options. No one knows where the prices will be in a few years

Invest in a box that you like and will enjoy holding. If you’re just thinking about money, it’s going to take years for you to get a *potential* solid ROI

Is it even worth opening a 1st edition Jungle Booster box and opening the packs to get cards graded? Or would you just be better off buying the graded card?
The reason I ask is we are assuming the cards will be PSA 10.
If you end up with some 8s is it worth it?
