Buyer has wrong address on ebay

A buyer just sent me this email:

“Just wondering I haven t received the card yet but went through a move right when it was supposed to show up how do I go about getting it?”

I checked the tracking number to only see this as the latest update:

What would be the best way to go approach this?
Should I just wait for the package to comeback and reship it to his/her new address? Would ebay refund me the orignal shipping cost, or do i need to recover it from the buyer? Just need some opinions here! Thanks

I would call ebay to figure out the best course of action.

Since you paid for shipping, I’m really not sure how you can recover those funds as a refund would only send back the purchase price.

There really isn’t much you can do in this situation… Personally, I would give the buyer two options:

1.) A partial-refund via PayPal - the buyer would get a refund based-upon the order total; less your cost of packaging / shipping.

2.) You re-ship the order once it is returned to you - emphasize for the buyer to provide you with their correct information.

That’s just what I would do though. You could also make a decision for the buyer - if you really don’t want to loose-out on what you paid for shipping. In that case, just tell the buyer that you will issue a partial-refund via PayPal (Option #1) and if they want to re-purchase the item at a later-date, that’s fine. However, I really wouldn’t even bother contacting eBay in-hopes that they’ll refund your initial postage - you may luck-out; but, I think a more likely scenario would be just a waste of time on your part.

@oldskoolpokemon Thank you for your well written response! I used your option 2 with communicating with the buyer! I traded emails with the buyer, and the buyer does want the item. So I told him that I will reship it once the item is returned to me. But also explained that i will have to recharge him shipping and that he/she needs to update their new address on ebay!

@teraz I usually call ebay if all options fail, so far the buyer has been easy to work with! Hopefully all goes well!

How much was the shipping? How much was the item?

Shipping standard first class mail rate about 3$, item was about 15$. It not a PSA 10 zard here lol

I’m glad to hear that everything has worked-out thus far! It’s a nice change-of-pace from what we normally see on E4! Haha

Since it wouldn’t be too much of a hit I’d consider just resending and cover shipping.
Tell him you’ll do this if he takes “a close look at your listings cause there’ll be room for another card or two in the envelope🤗”

I like this idea!
