Hello everyone long time lurker and this is my first post.
I’ve recently acquired some reverse holo LC cards that could possibly be spectacular. So much so that I am in a panic at the thought of getting them graded
I pulled a reverse holo Dragonite and reverse holo charizard. What are the chances of getting a 10 with a reverse?
I tried looking into comps… it seems like they are non existent? The only 10s I am able to find are old (low) certs where the standards were lower. I simply havent been able to find new cert Reverses in 10s. Do they even exist?!
Today I received my Dragonite as pictured below. I am VERY satisfied with the centering and corners of this card. I tried very hard to find flaws.
If I had to do a becket style rating I would give the following grades:
centering 10/10
corners 10/10
edges 9/10
surface… 9.5? I couldnt find issues with the surface but im sure with the right lighting and angles they will
There is one single seller of a psa 10 on ebay for about 12.5k with great interest BIG difference in price between a 10 and a 9. It is my belief that LC prices are about to explode and prime examples will set new market prices. To lessen my anxiety i wanted some opinions from you guys
I understand i didnt post the back. The back is great, i just was more concerned with getting the card back in the sleeve. Thats the last time I will ever hold it naked. So what do you think?
Glad you formally signed up! Welcome! Speaking generally, you can think of grading as a probability distribution. Based on the objective condition of your card, some outcomes are going to be more likely than others, but at the end of the day, grading is imperfect, and you won’t be able to say absolutely.
LC Reverse holos are tough to grade, you can refer to the PSA pop report as a gauge for how mint cards generally fare when submitted.
PSA 8 Pop: 238
PSA 9 Pop: 232
PSA 10 Pop: 42
Very low gem rate. Not to derail the post, but you mention that old certs had lower standards. This isn’t the case, although it’s not uncommon to see the older certs for sale be what would be considered weak for the grade now. This is likely in part explained by how “sticky” cards can be in someone’s collection (credit pfm for the term). Strong 2x certs, for example, are more likely to be held in someone’s collection for a longer period of time, while weaker grades are more likely to be sold off, so we see them more often.
Without a back photo, and the fact you say that there is some edge stuff going on, it’s not likely you would receive a 10, but not impossible. As you mention too, having so much holo on the surface means lots of opportunities for imperfections, so it’s hard to get that gem mint grade.
I would say that if it looks mint, send it on in! But I would temper expectations of receiving a 10. I hope you do though!
That may be true for Modern, but most Vintage PSA 10 chase cards go for 3x-5x a PSA 9 due to their greater difficulty in grading and scarcity. I do agree that $12,000 is delusional though.
I believe LC reverses command a premium in 10s
For instance i see the charizard in a 10 sold for $17,500 in September
But the last few psa 9s have only been getting ~$3,500 range
Heres the back. Thats not whitening toward the top left thats light reflection
Anyways i think LC is primed for price explosion. Most of these sales were from packs that were opened many years ago.
Today packs are going at a rate of $1,800 to $2,000
I was watching on whatnot different sellers sell through entire boxes at these rates
It doesnt make sense for one of the best possible hits in psa 9 (which is most likely since 10s are few and far between) to not even be close to recouping the price of the pack
It would make zero sense to open a pack when the best hit in the box gets only $3500 in a psa 9
All wotc cards will look terrible if you zoom in enough. Still the card has better centering than all the 9s ive compared it to. And the corners are very good
Yea you can be extra picky with the edges. I rated it a 9/10 but im not sending this to get a black label… should be a 9 minimum imo but i guess we’ll see
There’s sometimes a big disconnect between individual cards, and sealed product from a set. It could mean that the cards are undervalued, and like you’re saying will go up in price.
It’s also possible the price of the sealed product will decrease, and that ratio adjusts that way.
Or it’s possible none of that matters, and market gonna market. It can stay irrational longer than we can remain solvent
It isn’t easy to say from the picture, the top edge looks still rough to me.
I think the better solution would be to just send it to PSA, since it’s a card worth grading.
This whitening alone could get you a PSA 8. Then there is the whitening on the left back edge. And you have to consider the possibilities of print lines and small scratches on the front holo surface.
Dunno why it looks crummy like that from that angle.
But simply not seeing it
The guy who posted his 9 has visable whitening far worse than anything you can see on my card. Also i felt like i had better centering on the front (and the back for that matter)
You guys are spending all your time on the back like the front doesnt matter
I couldnt find any scratches thankfully. I looks hard with different color lights. However i did see something that could be seen as a print line. Not 100% but now im expecting a 9 completely
Its is on the edge of the holo to where the non holo part starts to the very top right. Not sure what they will say about that. Im gona pay for the service that includes the notes
