Can you send a psa 9 back to them and ask them to review it to see if it is a 10? An upgrade/or bump?
I have passed on several “older label” psa 10s that would likely be 8s now. And have a 9 that is perfect. Thanks in advance for any help! Has anyone ever tried this? If so- any success??
You can send your card in for “review”. The process is just like a grading submission.
So called “weak“ PSA 10s only hit the market more frequently because they are weak, and no-one likes a weak PSA 10. It has nothing to do with the age of the label.
Just think through logically what is required for a card to be bumped on review…
Initial sub it got a 9. This means defect(s) were found by the grader. (Plus the “2x cert good 4x cert bad” is tired and incorrect)
Second sub it is now encased in plastic and the new grader has the information that the prior grader found a defect worthy of downgrading to a 9. Second grader has to determine whether the first grader was wrong to the extent that they downgraded a card to a 9 when it was worthy of 10, with a lesser view of the card obscured through plastic.
PSA’s grading standards are not clearly delineated for 100% of card condition cases.
PSA’s graders are not able to perfectly apply the above standards 100% of the time.
PSA’s graders sometimes make mistakes unrelated to their skill or experience as a professional grader.
All of this means that, there exist times when a PSA grader might give a card a 9 that they, or one of their professional grader colleagues, might grade a 10 under different conditions.
I say the above because quite a few people on this forum have strong feelings about regrading cards. From what I understand, most of these feelings are due to a small set of people that regrade cards over and over in the hopes of bumping up their grades. While these serial regraders exist, that doesn’t mean anyone that uses the regrading process is doing so with bad intentions.
To answer your question more directly, yes, you can send in your cards for review, and yes, their grades can be bumped. If you feel very strongly that your 9 is perfect, then you should definitely give it a shot.
I’ve sent cards in for review before and they’ve been bumped up. I think I’m actually 2/3 on cards going from 9 to 10. A very small sample size, but enough to show that it does happen. However I think review is probably the most biased service PSA offers, simply because the “regrader” can see the initial grade and instead of assessing a grade from scratch, is looking for something that would justify the lower grade.
FYI, they remove some cards from cases before reviewing, especially if they are considering the regrade.
Years ago, I had two old label PSA 9 1st base Zards that I sent in for review, back when I was still grading, and they both came back with the same grade, but with new labels and cases.
