I have attached a few images to this post, and they are what I believe are Zukan cards, but I have been unable to find much information about these sets. I would like to know if anyone has any information available about these. Anything regarding the actual name, set sizes, release information, dates of release, pictures of cards in the sets, etc., is beneficial!
Hello,
Thanks for the tag unfortunately for these sets I don’t have all the information as I don’t collect the full sets but here’s what I know (I may be mistaken on some points):
There’s several sets that were released in “deck-like” boxes staring from 2004 and going all the way to 2009 I think for some of the Diamond and pearl era sets
Most pokemon have at least 2 cards in the ADV generation card sets (same cards different logo bottom left as its the case with Nidoking, nidorino and nidoran mâle), but popular pokemon (starters, legendaries, dragons, Pikachu, anime and movie pokemon) may have way more than 2 cards + holo variants and 3D ones.
You can find official set albums to store these in, that has the card printed on the card slot, buying one of those will defintely help you to build a set list or even understand how the set works
The broadest way to search for these maybe " ポケモン 図鑑 "(Pokemon Zukan, Zukan Means Encylopedia/ index / pokedex)
*You can also find some that have multiple pokemon on a single card (a mix of legendaries
The 3D ones come inside a cardboard pokedex-like holder
I myself had some difficulties trying to find info for the mewtwos a year ago since there is no full set guide or list posted anywhere. The only real info are the lists that come within the sets, but you would have to find all and maybe even buy them to see them clearly. Hopefully @Janineneedscaffeine sheds some light into the full sets. Meanwhile, use the existings threads, as well as photos of boxes and promotional posters/cardboard to identify them. One of the key identifiers are the mini circles or art surrounding the card numbers in the bottom left. For example we know the Kangaskhan in the top left of your photo is from the 2004 Advanced Generation Zukan FireRed & LeafGreen set part 2 due to it being red/green ( part 1 was red/blue). There are other sets that are very easily identified by these, the biggest issue i believe are the “normal” ones which have the numbers within small “arts” specific to their type. These i believe can either be from the “Zenkoku Version Box 2004” or “Zenkoku Version Box 2005”. Im not fully knowledgeable on these zukan cards cause as soon as i identified all the sets the mewtwos came in I moved away from the headache these were giving me. Lets hope we can soon get the informative videos and have a clear picture of all the zukan sets. Ps: @Janineneedscaffeine one of my biggest questions/doubts that i have never been able to fully answer with certainty is whether if the cards from the zenkoku boxes have both nonholo and holo versions, do you know???
Hello! @Julius19 please check out the link below to my mothers website where we have included all information about the Zukan sets up to 2004 (I’m working on 2005 this week) the link will take you to 2003 but you can use the drop down on the left to find the other sets we have also added videos to YouTube regarding the Zukan!
To answer your question there are some cards that are the same with different variants in the sets, but not all cards have a holo and non holo variant it does get most confusing in 2004/2005 sets, if we haven’t been clear enough please do contact us on instagram and we should be able to help further!
