What marketplace? Any details at all other than a picture?

Edit: Ah private sale according to CGC:

Nice way to get publicity I guess.
Reminds me of the Goldin Illustrator sale.

Crazy premium. Wasn’t the last PSA 10 sale like $500K? Had a Christopher Rush signature on the case as well I think.

Huge sale. Curious who bought it. Maybe Post Malone lol

I think the guy it’s called Benjamin Be on IG, great collector.
He has every grails of every main TCG

how much do these go for in the 8-9 range?

100k on low end. Most recent bgs 9 went for $130k this month on pwcc

That’s nuts! They really can’t compare to Pokemon. We don’t have any set cards that scarce

For what the print run of Alpha cards was, it really doesnt make sense to me that they aren’t absurdly more expensive.

its a similar but much cheaper phenomenon for base in pokemon. If historical significance was the main determining factor for price then theyd be even higher. But a massive portion of the hobbies wants cheaper flashier cards.

I had been meaning to make a dedicated topic here to discuss the distribution of money in pokemon. Speaking with some friends who are into other tcgs, pokemon stands out as very different. Using MTG as an example, there are (apparently) dozens of vintage sets worth nothing. In pokemon if a set ages it is not only guaranteed to stonk, but seemingly guaranteed to have a hardcore group of fans who demand to rip it down until its gone. There are tons of random sets in pokemon with cards worth so much money it is absurd. The amount set cards in pokemon that outshine 1st ed base holos in the same grade is astounding. Money is just so spread out and pokemon is so big

This guy just won the tcg game. I don’t think it gets better than putting the 3 most iconic grails together lol

For real. If I recall there was only 1,000 of each rare card made. And back then alpha was probably treated not as lovingly as Base Set so having such clean copies is probably even rarer (this one I don’t doubt was probably a recent pack fresh but still)

Watching OpenBoosters pull the alpha lotus is still one of the best TCG pulls recorded. It was just a few .5’s away from a BGS 10.

Alpha had 1,100 of each rare printed. Beta had 3,000. Unlimited had 16,000. It’s extremely hard to find Alpha rares in mint condition, especially the playable Power 9. Even more incredible to find a gem mint copy unless it was opened from sealed product in recent years.
