CGC Clean Case Break

EDIT 2: imgur.com/gallery/3TtXRgR Resealed pics. The choice is yours… REMEMBER, This is with me trying to get the card out. Not trying for minimal damage. The ONLY place you can see whitening is on the front near the label.

DISCLAIMER: I own 100% PSA graded cards, but couldn’t care less if we decided CGC was the graded standard starting tomorrow and all my cards had to be crossed or graded with them. This is meant to ONLY be INFORMATIONAL so please be civil!www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr0e6nVzHOo

I saw this video online about a week ago: where someone received their CGC case and it practically opened with 0 force. I thought that was a little worrying and since I was going to open my one CGC card anyways, I thought I would try to check if my case could do the same. I bought this card from Ebay, so it could have theoretically been tampered with before, but there was 0 signs of that on the case. I took a video because I thought no one would believe me if I posted this: imgur.com/a/9pjjl7I

Here is the aftermath of the case:

Perfectly clean opened case. Do with this what you will, but lets please be civil.

P.S. Yes I wear a thumb ring. Yes it is stupid, I know. I wear it cause my grandma wears one like a G and she means a lot to me. Go kick some rocks.

@sherbixtus ,

Can’t tell clearly from the pics, but is there no frosting or any signs of tampering on the split case after you opened it?

Maybe it’s a feature?

Wow. That’s what happens when you go with the new guys that have no experience and alot less bankroll than the big boys. Smh

This thread is probably going to get locked

CGC does not have “no experience”. They’ve been grading collectibles for years

Obviously they have no experience designing secure cases for cards…

Just edited the post but also here you go: imgur.com/a/WVklDSQ

One small part on the side that looks like it theoretically could just be a dent from packaging.

Thanks for sharing.

Really don’t see a reason for a lock… This is relevant information to collectors. Good to know and look out for

Yes but this thread mentioned cgc

This is what I want to know. Maybe a side-by-side photo comparison with both clamshells.

It does not “snap” back into place. Using super glue now and will update on what the case looks like when its done.

It’s interesting that the foil sticker they put in there for extra tamper prevention is stuck to the case instead of the label itself. Not only could this allow someone to potentially stick a lower condition card in its place, they could also print their own label and stick a different card in there altogether.

This is worrying, but my guess is that this is likely a machine error (the case didn’t close properly in the first place) rather than something which is commonplace with CGC slabs - at least I’d hope that to be the case anyway.

The label is not just a paper label that can be printed. The top of it and the portion where the grade is located has the illumination security stuff.

The sticker in or on the case is so that you cannot use a fake case with a real label and a different card.

Mistakes happen. Not just with CGC. But from what I have gathered, this site is very against CGC so any issues will just be heightened.

It’s not for tamper protection, as it is inside the plastic. I just cracked one and found that out!

So the security label is embedded into the plastic, or to you mean that its on the interior of the case?

I decided to sacrifice a slab myself for science. I’ve subbed to CGC a couple times now and enjoy the service they offer…just as a full disclaimer…

You are able to crack the slab with your hands/finger nails. Overall the slab did stay intact. Upon close inspection I did experience only a small amount of frosting, with the bottom inner seal being the most obvious. The slab itself does not click back together.
