Considerations:
These came from at least 3 CGC orders
Graded under the “older” CGC grading scale
Only represents 1 PSA submission
Cards were chosen based on having a chance of being bumped up
Don’t over-interpret these results. I think the take-away is that there is a lot of potential in older CGC slabs. I was selective about my choices but not really that strict. A few of them may have been CGC 8.5/9 and I was shooting for PSA 9 for my own collection. If the before → after value is greater than the cross-grading cost, it’s worth doing.

Funny enough, it’s exactly the same boost as my first order to 2 decimal places
OLD labels bumped higher than NEW but keep in mind, most of the NEW label category is dominated by the Rocket’s ex cards which are different from most others on this list because they are 1. English and 2. unlikely to 10 (the Mewtwo is clean though)
Good question. Mostly newback Japanese, some WOTC black star promos. You can see the whole sub here to get an idea (about half was a resubmission, the world Pikachu collection were not resubs): THE Great Grading Results Thread - #3381 by pfm
I have a bias against psa, but lately have been buying them ( psa slabs) more than others due to killer deals, flood of slabs on market… this definitely adds more fuel to my fire of “never pay the 10 premium”.
Has anyone done a psa 1-10 single card collection, with the same era of grading, multiple times? Ie: 1-10 all 2XXXXXXX , OR 4XXXXXXX, or 6XXXXXXX certs?
Curious to see if there is as big a difference as ive seen in pics / several 1-10 video guides vs current or slighlty older certs…
I’ve cracked about 18 CGC slabs (8 8.5s, 6 9s, 4 9.5). I cracked them without looking at them two closely therefore 2 8.5 had the smallest of indents and I didn’t regrade them. 1 8.5 got a 9 and rest went down to 7s and 8s.
The 2 japanese 9s got 10s from PSA 2 stayed at the 9 and the other two went to a 7
All 9.5s were modern japanese cards and all got the 10.
The lesson I take from this is that I have to inspect the card before I crack them out because otherwise the results will be all over the place.
^ These are the points people should pay attention to, not the stats.
I’ve crossed a CGC 5.5 to a BGS 10 but have plenty of 9.5s that aren’t PSA 10s. People trying to make averages or chance percentages out of the numbers are missing the point (to be clear this comment isn’t aimed at pfm - it’s all the “HEY GUYS IS MY 9.5++ CHORIZO ACTUALLY A 10” posts). If you look at the card and think it’s “undergraded”, then it’ll probably upgrade on a resub. If not, then it probably won’t. And I stress the “probably” part for a reason - aside from the different companies have different specific standards, you can send the same card to the same grading company 20 times and get a range of results just on the variance of different graders on different days.
I just had two 9.5s fail to cross via Graded Card Review so I’m going to have to crack and resubmit. 0/15 cards that I have sent for GCR this year have actually crossed. pretty brutal waste of cash. I’ve had luck with cracking tho
Cracked two 9 modern japanese CGC cards both relatively new (no messed up label) and they crossed to PSA 10s also crossed 2 9.5 MNT cards (Canada) and they also received 10s
i have a 9.5 i sent to psa with a minimum of 9, but im pretty nervous it wont even get that with how psa is lately. were yours all sent with a minimum of 10?
Im glad i came across this thread when i did. I had just posted some cgc 9’s (mostly with 2 9.5 subs and 2 9.0 subs) on a selling thread and had been contemplating cracking them and resubbing to PSA. Cards in question are all poncho pikachus hand-selected by me in 2017-2018 as part of my “experiment”. The price difference isnt something to scoff at either. Double the price from 9 to 10. Jeez. Good thread, three thumbs up.
