Charizard EX FRLG, Undervalued?

In my opinion Charizard EX from FRLG is the 2nd most desirable Charizard from the non-WOTC era after Charizard Gold Star. Obviously this can be debated. Right now Charizard EX is about $200 at PSA 9 and $600 at PSA 10. Charizard GS is $950 at PSA 9 and $2200+ at PSA 10. Charizard GS pull rates were lower if I remember correctly. Right now Charizard GS prices are on a rocket into space, but Charizard EX prices are been moving much slower over the last year. Do you all think this card is undervalued, and if so by how much?

earlier this year the 10s were going for in the $300s so I think they have been going up quite well. not like the others cards that have sky rocketed though.

As someone who pulled two of these back to back, hell yes they’re undervalued. My clearly unbiased opinion is that they should go for at least $800.

Booster Boxes are $1000+ right now. Obviously there is a sealed premium to them, but I find that they usually mirror the prices of a PSA 9 of the most expensive card in the set. If you look at Dragon Frontiers which is $2000 its priced midway between a PSA 9 and 10 Charizard GS. Then again you can get 2-3 EX out of a FRLG Box, so the added prices of those cards may make sense for the current box price, since Charizard EX PSA 9 isnt anywhere near $1000 right now.

It’s just going to take time for people to get into the ex series. We’ve definitely seen growth though. Give it a few years.

The $600 Suicune ex which sold in a PWCC auction is the most expensive Pokemon ex card atm but it’s a pop 7, not expecting many to be sold soon.

The reality is they’re just not as iconic or sought after or WotC cards but eventually this will change.

I think it’s in a good place right now. There are older and nicer looking charizards you can get for less and there seems to be no shortage of them on ebay. I’ve been wanting one for a while but every time I’m about to buy one I see something else I’d rather spend $200 on. Plasma storm 9 is around $200 too and that card has way more going for it.

Gold star 9s seem to be selling around $600 or so. That $950 is just what somebody listed one for but it’s not going to sell at that price anytime soon.

I sent in 3 this year in march If I remember right.
I got 10s on all 3 and they sold for 300, 305, and 315.
Now they are nearly double.
I think a lot of the original ex cards will see realization of being under priced.

You graded 3 10s at the same time??? *faints*
EPIC.

The ex cards from the ex era will have its time to shine, and if that happens, the most sought after one will boom in price. I’d say now is a good time to get one since its still under $500 a copy. But with any dynamic market there is no guarantee about future price increases, but the probability is high on this one. This being the FIRST Charizard ex also lowers the risk of the card not increasing in price long term.

I would probably say this card is slightly undervalue atm. As to how much it should be worth now, that’s anyone’s guess and mine is $500-$600.

The pop for this card increased quite a bit the last couple years. This has kept a steady supply of 10s on eBay always. Once it starts to dry up this will increase in value I believe. It is a stacked set with very popular pokemon.

Yeah, they were the only 10’s on that submission too. I sent in some gold stars and various other charizards with those.
It was my 15 card voucher submission from the psa membership.

I have sold a PSA 9 Charizard goldstar for 825 USD outside of Ebay. It sold within 1 day

I had listed one on Ebay aswell which was a possible regrade candidate (which I thought) for 1100 USD), upon close notice I discovered a scratch on which I delisted it. I had offers for around 1000 USD outside of Ebay on that aswell (although price on that was bumped up because possibility of regrade)

To be honest, the ex cards are fairly undervalued overall with the exception of some (especially lower pop ones).

I definitely agree with this and not just because I love the ex series. Certain sets and cards are already high. This is the same for the WOTC sets several years ago. Some sets and cards lagged behind. It wasn’t until the boxes began to climb and they were harder to come by that the prices began to rise.

If you look at 1st Ed base set boxes and the PSA 10 Charizard from that set you’ll see a trend other cards will likely take. 5+ years ago boxes were $5-8k with Charizard behind $3.5-5.5k. once the boxes began to climb over $10k they started selling out faster and faster and we’re harder to find. Right after this happened the cards began to increase.

Based off that trend I’ve seen quite a few of the exs go up in value. Based off the process of the boxes we haven’t seen them all go up as much as they should. Once the boxes are almost never on eBay we will see them go up.

Another thing is that FRLG was hoarded unlike many of the other sets. Not sure how many people have cases unopened. Every now and then someone pops up with a case of it.

FRLG Charizard used to be worth what it is now until plasma storm and that Charizard. Then we had Flashfire which had 7 Charizards. The ex went down to around $300 for a while. So many factors are involved in this cards and to a further extent, the cards from this series.

Absolutely! I found that pattern of boxes go up > cards go up aswell which is logical but I found another pattern. We can see the boxes going up but we often don’t know when the cards will follow. Sometimes boxes go up and cards just stay the same price for months.
I found that Charizard (if in the set) is nearly always the first to go up with other cards to follow.

I know ill be holding my ex PSA 10’s for a while haha  most are so cheap at the moment, less desirable ex cards often auction for around 40 which is crazy low in my opinion.

I don’t think FRLG being hoarded is going to have alot of effect on the price of set, as this set is by far the most popular and sough after set so there is alot of demand for it aswell…

I guess in the end we’ll have to be patient to see where it goes, time will tell

@robbiegrass I definitely agree. However FRLG isn’t the most expensive or most popular ex set. That usually goes to TRR and Deoxys followed by unseen forces TMTA and FRLG.

Who knows how much longer it’ll take for cards to follow the boxes. I have a feeling that as this resurgence of popularity of news, Pokemon go and huge auctions grows we’ll see people gravitate from WOTC to ex series and the newer tcg as players.

Well I bit the bullet and got one. Pretty happy since I got it at a great price and its a very strong 9.

nice addition. Not because it’s Charizard but as an overall cards it’s one of the top 5 ex cards. I’ve handled hundreds of them and the holo pattern and design really pop compared to the others.

Reading this thread it made me check my frlg box. I don’t collect this series so maybe I’ll list it as a set.
Two things: anybody wanna trade a 106 for a 116?
What should I list these for fixed price? As a set only.
I have:
104 thru 116 missing #106 with two #116s

Edit: oh…All PSA 10

I remember my set selling for $1.25-1.5k on auction. I’d personally list for $2-2.5k/OBO
