Hey everybody. I wanted to ask what your opinions are on the goldstar 8. Or even any other of the higher priced zards 8’s other than 1st or shadowless. i.e crystal charizard. Do you think these will solidify their place among the bigger cards in the near future? I mean every zard is respectively on the rise in some way but the I’m a little weary on if these will gain value like the 9’s and 10’s will. The reason I ask is because I have some of these and am deciding weather I want to move them in order to free funds to jump on this insane 1st and shadowless wave, or if I’m better off holding and just stretching myself to pick one up lol. Also what value would you put on the Goldstar 8 and even the Crystal 8?? If you have an insight it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you want to sell me a 1st shadowless 8 for 3700, then let me know!!!
Yes, I think the prices of English Crystal/Gold Star zards (PSA 8) will raise in the future, but not by a huge %. On the other hand, PSA 8 base 1st ed shadowless Zards will raise exponentially.
If I was you, I’d sell them, get that PSA 8 1st Shadowless zard and maybe get a PSA 9 or 10 Crystal/Gold star zard(s) if you have enough funds; they will be solid investments regardless.
I have mixed opinions on your question, which is quite legitimate. We don’t know where prices will peak on any card of any set.
I actually don’t really buy the argument that 1st ed Charizards will rise exponentially. It has happened and is still happening, but it’s not like the price is going to double up every year for the next few years straight to the moon. lol
Lets fast forward x years from now. We’re at that point the 10s go for $50k. You’ll most likely see a similar gap you’re seeing now where 9s might fetch $16-18k and the 8s $8k or so.
That’s slightly over twice value. Now do you think in the same time frame the gold stars or shinings or crystals will do as good? I think they’ll triple or quadruple tbh. The Gold Star Charizard is already almost $5k in PSA 10, the 8s are a bit underpriced in the $400 range. Crystal Zards are probably in the same range atm, I haven’t found any recent sales.
I agree. The word “exponentially” I used was probably an overstatement, sorry.
Thanks to influences like Gary’s show (omg zards everywhere) and social media hyping this certain shadowless card up. Not only that, we’re in this era where youtubers and twitch streamers are making mad money from donations, ads and subs. Some of them grew up with pokemon or knew about it. Like Reckful, nadeshot, soda, etc. Some of them were obsessive with Pokemon Go and streamed outside for a good month or so (thanks!!) whilst playing Go. They were talking about Charizards (the base set to be specific.) The demand is still healthy so hence my guess that the shadowless prices will keep going up steadily in the next few years.
I’m still going crazy about the Crystal Charizards. I own a PSA 10 english Holo copy and I bought it for $250 (yes, seriously) about 2 years ago, which took place outside of eBay. The seller was desperate and needed the money ASAP. I thought that price was a bit low but oh well. The day when I registered on this forum is the day I found out that the Crystal Zard price has literally skyrocketed within 2 years. A little disappointed because I should also have bought a Rev holo copy and that Jumbo one (all in PSA 10…) at the time. Just didn’t have enough funds.
Now prices of these Crystal are definitely on the rise, but I don’t know if they will keep rising like that for the next few years. But if that’s the case, then Zards from other sets should rise as well. I.e. 1st ed Dark Zard/1st ed Shining Zard, both English.
Now THAT’s what I call a solid investment that will see exponential growth/return.
That’s basically what I meant by my post. People buying at current top dollar prices will start to see diminishing returns so it’s tough to say if Gold Star or 1st Ed Base will grow more in the same period of time.
Lower grades are also very much on the rise. There’s not enough 9s and 10s to satisfy demand. Most of these copies are lockep up in private collections anyway.
Look at Shadowless 8, they were about $300 just a couple months ago. I bought a copy for $395 I think in late September and a couple weeks later I started seeing them sold for $700-800.
Short answer to the OP, if you’re able to buy your 1st Ed 8 without having to let go your Crystal 8 and Gold Star 8 that’s what I’d do. They might be $400-500 now, but I honestly expect these cards to double up at the very least in the near future.
PSA 10s will always have the highest rate of price increase as they are the highest and most desirable grade. So any lower grade won’t increase at the same rate. It may increase, but don’t be banking on a 4x price climb for PSA 8s because thats what the 10s are doing. I do think lower grades will become more solidified in price and will clearly rise as their higher grade counterparts become inaccessible for most, but I wouldn’t be looking at a PSA 8 as a solid investment target. If you can afford to do so, buy 10s of cards you think will rise in value.
Another note regarding solid investments, always make sure that what you get is really what you get. I.e. a PSA 10 (#insert card name here) must be a solid grade 10. If this certain card has creases, dots, some wears or way off centerings, whatever then it’s not a solid 10. This same rule can be applied to the lesser graded cards.
I’ve seen some sellers sell thier PSA 10 (mis-graded) cards for so cheap and there are certain mis-graded cards that almost never sell on eBay. So, yeah, be cautious.
Little update. I just sold my PSA 8 goldstar for just shy of 600 USD and bought an 8.5 shadowless (a solid one I hope to re-grade) for 1500 USD. I have a 9 goldstar already, and do not have a shadowless, and feel 8.5’s are a good investment as sometimes it’s hard for people to afford a 9 but an 8 is maybe not what they want either. I don’t plan on selling this card though. Just hoping it re grades a 9. And If not I feel I paid a safe amount And I’m interested to see what this PSA 9 at auction does. I have a feeling we’re looking at a 3k new price set. In which case I’m happy with a half grade less for half the price! Thank you all for your input!! I’ve also recently found a mint 1st edition ungraded locally I plan on picking up and grading!! Will keep you posted!!! Keep making moves people!!
