Cheapest way to mail inexpensive singles?

Would a toploader mailed in regular envelope be under one ounce for regular “forever” stamp?

For an inexpensive card would this be acceptable?

Any suggestions thanks!

(Cards selling for under $5)

I’ve always done PWE toploader for cards under like $15-20. One stamp and off it goes.

Whenever I order <$5 cards (which is quite often) they’re almost always top loader in PWE. Sometimes if the seller is fancy they’ll put piece of paper with the receipt/invoice in with it

In the UK I use a bubble mailer, toploader + sleeve and a 2nd class stamp. With the envelope, toploader and sleeve cost factored in it’s around £0.90 for me to ship to anywhere in the UK. If overseas it’s £1.62 instead with all other costs factored in.

For the US, yes PWE and one single stamp for one ounce or less. And this works for 3 cards, sometimes 4 or less, with top loader, 8x11 piece of paper taped. I take the toploader and tape it top and bottom to a piece of paper folded into the envelope so it doesn’t move around.

Oh and up to a couple of penny sleeves as well. What nish said is funny, because that is standard from tcgplayer.com , and I also do this with a handwritten thank you, not the invoice bit. That would be a bit much for an ebay single order.

You only need 2 stamps for over 1 oz, so I only do this when I ship under $20 worth of singles but there are enough in there to amount to over 1 oz. This usually means 2 toploaders with about 6-10 cards. Though I would say anything over 10 for me personally constitutes over $20-25 and therefore 1st class with tracking.

thanks guys— so 1 card in toploader in PWE only needs one stamp then?

Yes, you can do 3 or even 4 and you’ll be totally fine. 3 ALWAYS weighs less than 1 oz. Most times 4 can fit. (one toploader)

Yes, but I have heard that PWEs can be damaged if they’re thick/rigid, as they would be with a toploader inside. Stamps normally cost 55 cents, but there is a special stamp you could use instead that costs 70 cents that ensures that the PWE won’t be put through some narrow machine or something that can damage it.
I will say, I ship using a regular stampswith a PWE with a toploader inside nearly every single time, and I have never had an issue. But I have noticed that a PWE I received once (that contained a card in a toploader) looked like it had been through the ringer–the card was fine though. After that, I bought the 70-cent stamps–may or may not be worth it, idk.

Sword, this isn’t necessary. All envelopes are sent through machines. Irregular shaped or sized ones may be deemed non-machinable. But if you do my method, of putting the toploader inside of the 8x11 and tape it so it doesn’t move around, it is 100% machinable and never, ever has a problem. I have shipped countless orders this way–never a problem. I have bought even more this way from tcgplayer, once again, never a problem. Just place toploader in bottom third of paper, tape it, wrap the paper around it taut, and tape the last fold of the paper over, and viola, perfect PWE shipping.

I’ve been doing it the exact same way haha! Only just recently did I buy the 70-cent stamps. Given your confidence in the matter, I’ll stick with what I was doing prior and won’t buy any more of the expensive stamps.

A whole lot of scamming buyers are about to be very upset.

This is amazing.

3 cards and under in a top loader. If you start putting in more than that you’ll probably need to use what’s called an “uncle sams hat” stamp. It’s like 20 cents and adds an extra ounce of postage on top of the forever stamp.

for PWEs, I like the slightly bigger ones where you can stand the card up and it fits snug so it doesn’t move around in the envelope.

I limit 3 cards per top-loader, I tape the side of the top loader to the PWE as the PWE fit the card snug top to bottom.

I do recommend putting in a 5-10% discount code/$5 off/free shipping whatever it may be in your envelope for customer retention. Depending on where you’re selling if it’s feasible.

Buying custom PWE in bulk may be a little more expensive but it saves tons of time & allows you to add logo/website good for branding.

I’ll use PWE usually up to $50 for multiple cards and $25 if its a single card

as seafoamarticuno, said from a buyers perspective they don’t expect Mint cards a lot of sellers on TCG do pull the 10s some don’t whatever your business model looks like it may be an advantage or something to consider.

I don’t buy raw cards from someone that also sells graded cards I think its a conflict of my personal interest.

Shipping schedule; what works for you but be transparent make sure its timely esp without tracking.

If I have tape on the top of my top loader I frown

Just an example say someone buys a Ninetails off me if that set had a vulpix and it’s not much work for me I’ll throw that in there as it’s usually about a nickel.

That’s about all I can think off the top of my head, best of luck!

EDIT: this is a copy-paste from a thread yesterday I posted in; felt like it was relevant

A card in a penny sleeve placed in a cheap greeting card with an envelope and stamp. You might even make someones day by writing a friendly greeting inside. Bonus points for picking a cool stamp.

I’m really looking forward to this! For me at least, it’s not so much about scamming buyers but being able to retain a top rated seller status while also selling singles.
