Collection of old WOTC cards, unsure what to do

Hello everyone,

I’ve been lurking awhile, really like the community.

I come here with some questions regarding my personal collection of Pokemon cards which range from Base Set unlimited through Aquapolis. Most of the collection is WOTC though; lots of base set, fossil, jungle, and rocket.

I’m looking to get rid of my collection as I have moved onto other things for hobbies and am not interested in collecting at this time, but I’m struggling to decide what to do. I’m guessing the easiest method would be to sell the holos individually and the rest in bulk, but I’m worrying about leaving money on the table.

Unfortunately my base set and some jungle/fossil cards aren’t in mint condition because I was young when I played the TCG and even though the cards were sleeved I wasn’t very careful with them. I have a couple base set Charizards, for example, but both have some whitening on the back so I’m guessing grading above a PSA 6 is out of the question (and therefore getting any ROI on the grading fee is gone). The other 10 holos I have from base also set show similar wear.

However, my later sets, starting with Rocket I believe, were never handled after opening from packs as I lost interest in the actual game and the cards were sleeved and stored in boxes. I have a couple dozen 1st edition team rocket holos, including three Dark Charizards in very nice shape. Hardly any whitening on two of them and zero on the third. I’m guessing these holos might be worth getting graded?

Finally, I have a couple 1st edition shining pokemon from the neo sets, all three legendary dogs, and Lugia from Aquapolis. I’m guessing these too should be graded and sold? And what about the commons/uncommons/non holo rares? Sell in bulk?

Sorry for such a massive first post, I’m just trying to get some ideas so any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the fourum.

Pretty simple really. You’ll get out of it what you put into it. If you try to sell quick you’ll leave a lot on the table but your effort will be minimal. Work harder and spread it out over a longer period of a time and you’ll do much better but your per hour take could be pretty relative.

Good luck to you…
