Collector "types" - which are you?

Pokemon have types

Articuno Ice Flying

Zapdos image Flying

Moltres Fire Flying

But do collectors?

2 questions:

  • If collectors had types, what would they be?
“condition”, “error”, “autograph”, “promo”, “species”, “binder”, etc?

  • What type(s) are you?

I guess my main types would be “binder” “species”, with side types being “artist” “set”?

I just recently started collecting though, and all three parts are somewhat equal for now

My main collection and what I have the most money in for Pokémon started with trying to max rarity a 672 card cube that a group of us draft fairly often. At first I was strongly against the idea of blinging it out simply because I’d already done that sort of thing with old Yugioh formats (mostly Goat) way back when no one cared about the “rarest” version of cards. I was fortunate to pick up a ton of things for less than $20 each 10-11 years ago that now cost $500+ each.

So the idea of not being able to buy full art trainers, hard to find promos, etc for Pokémon at massive discounts like I did my Yugioh stuff really turned me off. That is until a friend in our playgroup donated the most expensive full art Lily to the cube solely to convince me to start maxing it out. I thought I was almost 100% sure I was giving it back asap until I opened a draft pack with it in there and was immediately hooked at how vibrant and cool it was compared to almost everything else in the pack of 15 cards. Now a year later and I’m around 35 cards short of having it done.

No regrets. Playing with our cube decks is now visually a beautiful experience lol

Definitely condition and maybe nostalgia? I know that’s not an option but I like cards that bring me back to my childhood. Cheers

Well you can chose / make your own type. I don’t think there is any box to fit us collectors in.

Cheers!

Binder and sealed - english only. Applies to modern and vintage.

Graded and History would be my types.

I adore cards in a slab and be it cards relating to my personal history or cards that are a piece of pokemon history itself, those are these cards I gravitate towards.
