Now that we’ve ran both polls for 2023 and 2024 (year 1 and 2) of SV, I thought it would be interesting to compare the results and see which year was generally better as far as artwork that came out.
keep in mind, I have no idea the disparity in participation, so instead of comparing the exact number of votes, lets focus more on where they placed in relativity to each other.
first, we’ll compare the best (top 25ish of each year) and then the worst (5 or less votes in each poll)

but before I wrap this up, lets compare the worst of each year
Nahhh that meowth literally has cerulean city visible in the background, its illustrated where you actually find it in the games and the art is incredible too lowwwww
From what I see, Gen1 and 2 are going to be most popular with other gens really needing to have strong art to be respected. Strong art seems to be based on overall compisition mood in 2024 with background complexity but it doesnt seem to matter for 2023.
Maybe peoples thoughts will change once they newest generation becomes a little less new? Or maybe there is a lot of bias on E4?
well 151 dropping in year 1 heavily skewed the results and pokemon pull. even if many are deserving of their placements, it’s still tons of gen wunners entering the pool.
but yeah the pokemon will usually heavily skew the results, but i will say charizard and pikachu both underperformed in both polls (sv8 pika placing near the bottom and both dark tera charizards placing in the bottom 1/3rd).
i have a soft spot for milotic, so i definitely understand that one doing so well, but most of my favs are nowhere near the top (sv2 treasures and sv5 leaves/crown)
