If there’s a normal version and a reverse holo, I look to get the reverse holo as a priority(for instance the pokemon dragon reverse). I’d also get multiple of the same artwork on some, for instance legendary collection reverse + regular common. I’d also like to get my hand on the masterball reverse from 151.
My question is: How complete is that list? I know about the Japanese banned Team Rocket grimer which would be a cool pickup. Any other niche grimer card I should know about?
Most likely I’ll look to get most of the “common” cards in a cardshow or in bulk so shipping costs are minimal. Any advice appreciated!
Exciting to see another grimer collector! The list looks to be up to date so nothing to add there regarding artworks unless you are interested in cameos which are these dewott and eevee, the latter being a nice stamped promo in japanese
Grimer has some great different levels regarding collecting, if you are interested in easier path the banned team rocket card and 151 master ball variant are indeed nice cards to get. However if you are interested in the deeper rabbit hole there are niche variants like Australian 1999-2000 copyright variant of fossil grimer, code variants of all ex era grimer artworks and the rare unlimited japanese undaunted/L2 reverse holos. I don’t have a written list of the cards and variants but i’ve posted photos of all official grimer and muk tcg cards here, spiced up with some non-tcg cards too.
Looking forward to seeing your collection as it grows so hopefully you will make a collection thread at some point!
Wow, that’s an extensive collection, thanks for sharing!
Cameos wouldn’t be a priority but definitely something I’d look to get if I manage to find them. The stamped promo especially looks pretty sweet.
What makes the unlimited japanese Undaunted/L2 reverse holo special? Did it have a limited print-run or something?
The Australian 1999-2000, is the only difference between the two cards the “1999-2000” vs only “1999”? Very small difference but could be cool to have, especially if any single card from that printrun is rare.
Part of the reason why I’m doing Grimer is because I want to own certain “types” of cards. I don’t own a legendary collection reverse for instance, nor any masterballs reverses etc. So working towards a Grimer collection while “checking the box” on those type of cards achieves multiple goals. So assuming the 1999-2000 is rare as a set, would be great to own a grimer from the set.
Thanks for the info, will definitely post an update/collection at some point when it’s more developed.
Yes, compared to 1st edition unlimited L2 print amounts are very limited, it took my quite a bit of time to find even a non holo unlimited grimer when i was hunting them and naturally reverse holos are even more scarce.
The only difference with Australian fossil cards is indeed the copyright year. Rares from the set tend to be pricy (if they are even to be found since @jac2357 is too good at picking them up) but commons shouldn’t be too bad!
That’s a nice foundation for a collection, tbh grimer isn’t the most printed pokemon in different sets but nevertheless being a gen 1 pokemon it’s included in some very nice sets, like the ones you mentioned! Still hoping to see the day grimer gets a shiny or art rare card
Gotcha. The L2 reverse definitely seems like a fun card to chase or at least have as a long-term goal. Same for the Australian Fossil cards.
That’s another reason why I’m focused on Grimer tbh. It’s a Gen-1 iconic pokemon… But not most people’s favourite. As a new collector it’s a very affordable collection goal, compared to the absurd prices of for instance any starter, or the more iconic cards like Gengar/Mew/Mewtwo/Legendaries etc where a single card might cost more than an entire collection of Grimer. On top of the sheer number of cards for those pokemon.
It’s honestly quite odd he hasn’t gotten a single art rare yet, I feel like most of the Gen-1 pokemon got at least a couple “special” cards, but as you say hopefully sometime in the future.
That’s a fourth unlimited L2 reverse grimer i’ve seen during my time collecting, even though i don’t actively search it anymore i do always check the reverse holos when i go through grimer listings in mercari, so definitely a scarce one
That’s a big purchase for me. I’m familiar with Buyee but haven’t personally used it. But its 3900 Yen + shipping costs to Europe?
Tbh I’m not worried about Japan or Buyee, just the price since I’m not sure how it usually works with international shipping and so on. Also, normally this would be a “bonus” card like the cameo cards, something to look for after completing the regular collection including the pricier/rarer banned Grimer + Legendary collection reverse so I’m not in a rush to get it… but if its that uncommon maybe I should lol. Decisions decisions
Airmail is 1290 yen I think (could be more to Europe)
Buyee fee is around 500 yen
I can’t make decision for you, but this card would be the rarest in any Grimer collection. If you need the money in the future, I know multiple people trying to complete the set in unlimited that would buy it
I will say… I would buy it personally but it’s your decision. If you pass on it I will probably buy it because I started collecting Grimer recently. He is just a good little stinky guy.
I went for it, realize it makes the most sense to pick this up now. Should take a while until its delivered. I’m guessing you(or others on the forum) have more experience with Buyee so I might pop in with questions concerning how it all works(but it does seem quite straight-forward with shipping etc). Thank you for the link!
I’m a bit curious(maybe @joponnes would know this), are there any graded copies of this card at all? Or Unlimited L2 cards in general? To get an idea of the pop count and so on.
The funny part is my collection is gonna go from literally the easiest possible ones to collect(151 Grimer, 151 Grimer reverse, also got a base set unlimited somewhere) to… The rarest one possible.
