Don’t crucify me but do you believe now a days psa is a tougher grader in vintage/wotc cards compared to modern cards?
Also I’m a psa fan through and through so psa if you read this I love you very much

I simply include a $50 bill with all my submissions and I have no issue getting the grades I want. So I have no reason to believe there’s anything amiss.
You joke but someone sent a $50 with a PSA order and PSA just returned it with the graded cards.
$50
@Charizard1020 I’m going to have to strap you to a chair and teach you how to write descriptive titles and to how to use tags. At least you found the Grading category for this one
I was trying to get like a PSA 2 or 3 1st blastoise once and asked them politely in the submission comments for the grade and ended up getting it lol
No, I don’t think so. I think sometimes we have too high of expectations for vintage cards. The reality is, it’s never been easy to get 10s on them, which is why some of them have such a low population of 10s. They are getting older each day and the odds of having a WOTC holo in PSA 10 condition just sitting in a binder or box is really quite unlikely for many cards I think. Even fresh out of a pack they may only score an 8 due to awful centering or factory print lines or other issues.
On the other hand, modern cards are not only manufactured better on average than WOTC, but they are largely being sleeved and carefully stored right out of the pack. Everyone understands this well and so of course you’re going to see a lot more 10s on the modern side. They just aren’t seeing the same levels of handling, play, and other issues that many vintage cards have/had.
So in conclusion, I don’t think any conspiracy is at play here.
I underestimated how infamous that was!
Or, vintage/WOTC cards are harder to grade because they’re in worse condition (both pack fresh or after experiencing 25 years of the elements).
Edit: @jabby beat me to it lol
Fair fair. I’m usually pretty bad at adding the right tags
The real conspiracy is PSA grades my cards harder and everyone elses easier lmao
Wow! That’s principle right there.
PSA +50 reputation.
People might be skeptical on what was shared online, esp reddit but hear this… Someone (who claimed he has worked at PSA) had disclosed before on reddit IIRC, that it’s all about the grader who was tasked to grade your cards - can be lenient or strict.
Had experienced personally and also seen people getting 9s and 10s on vintage. Even resubbing from 9 to 6 to 10. That’s how subjective grading is! It’s all about luck. When received an undesirable grade, just resub!
Definitely has a part in it. When I submit, I like to give the grader some variety. Hopefully, they’ll appreciate, and it’ll put them in a better mood.
If I had a 9 and cracked and resubbed and it got a 6 my heart would break
PSA 8 resub becomes BGS black label!!
And this is precisely why I do NOT buy black label cards!! Only want it among my grading results.
Does anyone know how they physically mark the grade? Is it a computerized entry table? A tag that travels with the card through the process? I wonder how many data conversion points there are along the process.
I honestly think it has more to do with them having fewer graders that just phone it in now. So even though you can still squeak baddies through it happens a lot less frequently. Which has the same optics.
I had some early ex era holos come back 10s last week with multiple corner dings. Granted I think they did the damage themselves.
You need to think longer term not single subs. 9 may go to 6, 6 to 8, 8 to 5, 5 to 10. I’d like the 10 to come from as low a grade as possible as it makes for a better story lol.
That’s too many hoops to jump through
If you set your final grade as a 9 or 10 it’ll happen a lot faster. Best case you get the higher grade worst case you break even.
