I recently bought a few CGC graded cards to add into my binder collection, and I wont say I had the smartest idea but when I first handled the case I realized how flimsy they are. So I decided to crack the case with my hand… & It was actually the easiest thing ever. I’ve cracked 100s of PSA/BGS cases and they can be a pain in the rump. I just put pressure around the edges and the top and bottom of the case just came apart… Just found this really interesting how easy it was. Wouldn’t say it was the “best” way to crack the case but it was super fast and convenient.

EDIT PLEASE READ:
The thread was not created with the intention to bash a company just an observation, regardless of my opinion of CGC as a whole that was never mentioned. Many CGC cases will be cracked for binder collections or cross grading to a service that the majority of your collection is. There is no right or wrong service they all have their pros and cons.
I just purchased two more CGC cards to make sure I have them and I will create a video of me cracking the case by hand… I don’t think that’s a crazy claim. If you have a PSA, BGS & CGC graded card laying around list them from 1-3 in terms of sturdiness a quick analysis leads to the results of sturdiest to least sturdy 1. BGS 2. PSA 3. CGC let me know if your conclusion is any different.
And just for the sake of it I just attempted to crack a PSA case with my hands and was successful. It took much longer and I cracked the top a little and was able to pry it open with my fingers it also shattered in a few places. Where with the CGC case I was able to apply pressure around the whole case cracking it and pry it open using less force.
I’ll make a video, but here is some pictures of both the CGC & PSA cases
I’m sure Gary will accuse me of astroturfing but why was there a huge uproar for someone who happens to work for cgc posting “lol psa sucks” in the cgc thread but posts from a dude who started his account two weeks ago claiming without providing proof that “lol cgc cases are trash” is okay?
Isn’t it a good thing to be able to crack cases easily if you specifically apply the right pressure, as long as they can’t easily be re-created? Plenty of people crack graded cards for their binders not just crossgrading. Obviously cracking if dropped on the floor is a bad thing but cracking PSA and BGS is nerve wracking.
Good for cracking, bad for protection. Wouldn’t be surprised if a card gets scratched if dropped on a viable floor, opens, and the inside edge of the case falls on it.
Well I don’t know what you’re comparing my thread to or how the length of my E4 account has anything to do with the flimsiness (liability to failure under pressure or stress or strain) of CGC graded pokemon cards.
Compared to BGS/PSA they are indeed more flimsy. Each grading service has their pros/cons I myself thanks for asking prefer BGS but that is an opinion based on the facts, and one of those facts being BGS cases are not flimsy
I’ll defiantly put it on the list to do, as I cracked what I had already (I am awaiting on a few more in the mail) & I will update the thread with the video/pictures
This may be a stupid question, but if you crack the case by hand, are the 2 plastic parts still intact? With the little force neede to open them, there would be a chance they would come of each other unharmed, if this were the case scams could arise right? Or am I overexarating here?
I agree, the case defiantly was cracked and had small splinter lines. I did have to apply a decent amount of pressure with my hands, but and it kind of just popped off where with BGS it’s more of a shatter of the case. For me I’m most likely going to go strictly with CGC for my binder collection due to prices/ease of cracking. So for me it’s a positive.
That is a concern in my book because I’m a pretty clumsy person, just yesterday I tripped over air. & yeah I was just looking for a quick method to crack them right when I get them in the mail without having to head to my shop and get tools etc.
