Cross grade should you send in case or break out?

Hi guys

Wanted some general advice with grading a card with a different company say a psa or cgc card to BGS would it be more ideal to crack the card out and send raw or to send it in slabbed?

I feel like the grader at the other company is likely to feel reluctant to bump it higher then the original if it’s still in the case as it saves them time and effort to just say no wouldn’t cross, especially with the backlog.

Hopefully some people with more grading experience then me can chime in. I have some high grade stuff that I’m hesitant to send if it’ll be a near automatic no. Also have some mid range grades like psa 6s that I feel deserves a 7-8 if sent to say BGS But wouldn’t want them to shrug it off and say we can’t give it a better grade then PSA since they have a reputation for being flakey on the lower end grades.

Thank you for any advise I really appreciate the community here.

Your best chance is always cracking it and sending it in raw. Whether or not you go that route depends on how much of a financial gambler you are, and the chance that it comes back graded lower than the current grade.

I definitely would not send any card to BGS that is not a 9 or higher. The grades underneath a 9 are a disaster and lose all kinds of value.

i would always break open the case to do a crossover, even on regrades if submitting to the same company

I don’t trust them to be objective with the previous grades on there.
