Just been browsing lately and have been really likely the Daisuki club promo cards. Do any of you know why the club cards from 2007 10000 pt Darkrai is so much cheaper than the 2010 Master Scroll which is 8600 pts?
I do not understand what participants did to earn their points, but figured the Darkrai would have been harder to get due to higher point gain.
Just something I have been looking around at and hope someone was around then to help transfer me some knowledge
The darkrai and Cresselia promos have two different releases. The dpt release and the L-P release. The Dpt release took 10k point to earn these cards and so far only a single pair has ever surfaced/known to exist. The L-P variant only took 3200 points I believe which is why you see them much more often. I believe you are confusing the two variants. In the case that you Arenât show me where these are because I will buy them all.
the 10000 point version was the dpt promo version, which is indeed very rare. I believe the first set of the darkrai cresselia set to have ever been found, were found earlier this year and bought by a fellow efour member. (dont remember who).
Oh wow, I thought they were the same art but just with l/p as promo instead of dpt/p.
I thought the season was so short that dpt promo were discontinued and l/p promo were the new numbered promos.
So there was a promo card that is still rare, but the true prize cards are the ones in the photos above? Wouldnât the 10,000 point cards still be rare as hell like the Master Scroll?
The requirements to earn points and the points numbers have changed over the years. Itâs also critically important to recognize some promos had less time allowed to achieve the necessary points.
For example, if you go from PLAY Promos â Playerâs Club Promos â Daisuki Club, the 20,000 point Jolteon Gold Star promo was not twice as difficult to obtain as a Masterâs Scroll.
I think some people are mixing up two Darkrai promotional cards. The 2007 Darkrai is a totally different card than the 2009 one referenced here. It did indeed require 10,000 points to earn. I believe this was the one you are thinking of in the OP post. However, the system and time to earn points was easier in 2007 which made the card more obtainable
Then in 2009 you had another Darkrai promo (and Cresselia) released in the Diamond and Pearl era and card style. This required 3200 points. When the HGSS card style was introduced in Japan, the style for the Darkrai and Cresselia being awarded was also changed. It kept the 3200 point requirement.
The reason the 2009 DPT version is so rare is because there was a very limited time to obtain 3200 points within the release of the promo and the switch to 2009 LP style. After the LP version was released, 3200 points was still difficult but much easier to obtain in the needed time frame.
Here you can see subtle variations with the DPT vs LP style (stole your pic Mason):
Thank you for taking the time to write this out for me. Totally makes sense and exactly what I was looking for. I have been loving the artworks but couldnât figure it out on my own, haha.
Why was/is the Master Scroll so rare? The artwork is super cool, but it also looks like there were many more cards to in that set that go for a premium?
It should be noted that BOTH Darkrai cards listed above have english equivalents that are $10 or less NM. The 2007 one was in our Majestic Dawn set and the 2009 one was a 3 pack blister promo for Platinum Arceus. Scroll commands a premium (in part) because of its uniqueness. While I think these cards are all really good (especially Masonâs DP versions â cool story and rarity) they are going to be more niche than the Scroll. Scroll is just a unique card that looks really cool. Again, exact rarity does not perfectly correlate with dollar value. Itâs a good suggestion, but some cards are less rare than others and still sell for more.
Totally understand the popularity aspect, and I appreciate you input. Thank you for the tip on the English cards too
I was just so confused on the HUGE cost difference from scroll to other Daisukiâs since they are technically set together. $30,000-$475 was blowing me away for PSA10âs.
My dumbass gets hooked on some artwork then I look to you proâs for the help. thank you for the knowledge as it makes them even cooler now.
Oh, thanks for sharing them side-by-side like this! Apparently my L-P and DPt-P Pikachus are similar in terms of the difference in card borders. I never noticed that until youâve pointed it out, primarily because my 019/L-P Pikachu is in my regular binder, and my 016/DPt-P Pikachu is still sealed with its brochure in my Jumbo binder. TIL.
